Update on the anxiety meds

in #anxiety7 years ago

I'm committed to making anxiety and depression less of a stigma. Consequently, I post about my journey often to let other people experiencing similar things feel more normal.

About a month or two ago my doctor changed my prescription for my anxiety. The Pristiq I was on had a terrible side effect; it made me spend money uncontrollably.

Given some of my symptoms and the way that drug affected me, my doctor put me on Welbutrin. It helps reduce the impulse control issues as it normally is used for smoking cessation. It also has the benefit of reducing the incessant stressing thoughts.

The last couple of weeks it seemed to not be working as well anymore. Last Friday I freaked out on my husband, which I haven't done in a while. I've been not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. I've been struggling to work as hard as I normally do. So I called my doctor this Thursday and she decided to up the dosage on it.

As soon as I took an extra of my old dose (she doubled it) I noticed a difference. That evening I was being playful with the dogs and wanting to cook dinner. I was more cuddly with my husband. My libido returned a smidgen.

Drugs are not a crutch. They are necessary for a lot of people. We wouldn't tell people to use natural remedies for diabetes, why would we do that for anxiety or depression?
