Low profile portable typewriter. Remember these back in the day? I don't.

To be honest I never typed anything serious on it. For me ti was always paper and pencil. This is my brothers typewriter. He got it when he went to college. It looks good, you have to admit. Sleek, low profile, green and compact . It hass a nice black rubber handle, strong enough to carry the typewriter anywhere you please. The cover has a nice matte finish and no finger smudges will be seen on ti. Typewriter it self is made of a green glossy plastic, the keys are also made of plastic with a glossy finish.

You will need a little finger muscle to poke the keys. I remember when I finished playing with it, it caused me some serious finger tip pain. Just imagine how many people use to work on one of those. A typewriter was also a tool of modern society hospitals, police stations, journalists, writers... Everyone had a typewriter. It even evolved to an electric typewriter! It was produced in 1902. by the Blickensderfer Manufacturing Company, of Stamford, Connecticut. Lots of people around the world were involved in perfecting the typewriter. One of the first versions of the typwriting machine was made by an Italian printmaker, Francesco Rampazzetto in 1575. In 1865. a danish Rev.Rasmus Malling-Hansen invented the Hansen Writing Ball. It finaly got standardized in 1910. where typewriter manufacturer followed the same concept, each key was attached to a typebar that had the corresponding letter molded, in reverse, into its striking head. The typewriter went a long way from a must have too expensive antiques.

What I have here today is made in Germany. It's a item from the 1970s. Its label says Splendid but whene I looked it up and i couldn't find the company that manufactures them. Splendid was a successful model of Olympia. After 1948. Olympia factory becomes East German Optima. So I searched the web and stumbleupon a website that is selling the exact same typewriter as my for 120 dollars. Take a look if you like it.

I like the sound of that but they offer the machine in working condition, protective case and manual which I don't have. I am glad that my pice is in good condition and working. It's a shame i miss the manual but I'll try to find it so I can get a better price. If you got a similar item you can check it out here, it's a great website.

Agreed, cool last image!

I remember that typewriter, so it's vintage not antique. :)
