Neon Genesis Evangelion by some considered one of the best animes of all time. Is not only a mecha anime with some philosophy thrown into it, but it's also a prime example of how people dealing with mental issues need help.
After watching the anime I instantly wondered. Why wasn't there a psychologist in there? It'd make so much more sense for the characters to just have a therapy session with a specialist than to have to fight their problems on their own, maybe with exception of a couple times where they helped one another.
The Show also deals with the hedgehog dilemma which states that we all long for closeness, yet the closer we get the more we hurt one another. This highlights another problem, the problem with being vulnerable and open and/or in my opinion being too sensitive to being emotionally hurt by others. Personally, I couldn't understand why this problem existed, whenever I helped others or was helped, opening wasn't a problem at all, however I can't help but feel that I can't comprehend the trauma and stress the main characters have endured since my problems were quite minuscule compared to theirs. Nonetheless, refusing help and attempts of closeness from others is probably the worst thing one can do when dealing with a mental problem. Yet, we can't forget that others have to offer help in the first place for it to be accepted, we can't let ourselves think that possibility of hurting others is worse than possibility of not helping them out. It's as if a surgeon was afraid to operate on a patient because he could mess up. We need to remember that action that is failed is still better than no action at all.
So if you're dealing with mental problems, don't worry about opening to people, yes they may hurt you, but without opening to others you will not receive help either. Try talking to your friends, and if you find it more comfortable, maybe join a discord support group server as some people may find it easier to open up to strangers than people they know. Also don't forget that if your problems are serious you should visit a therapist since they'll know how to help you best.
And if you know someone who struggles with mental problems, try having a heart to heart talk with them about it, do it over text if they feel too uncomfortable to open up in person, and after that, remember to help them through support, simple kind interactions and helping them find a therapist.
And let's not forget.
"Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live."
