The latest One Piece movie, ‘ONE PIECE FILM GOLD’, was released on July 23 and it seems to be unstoppable. In its first eleven days the movie made around 2.5 billion Yen.
‘One Piece Film Gold’ is the first movie to be released in theaters since ‘One Piece Film Z’ three and a half years ago. Eiichiro Oda, the author of the original work and the director of this movie, brought together a team that attracted a lot of attention: famous Japanese actors Kinya Kitaohji and Hikari Mitsushima, and the Japanese top-model Nanao.
The very first screening of the very first day (July 23) surpassed the previous movie by a whopping 120% increase in attendance. That was the first sign that the movie was going to become a summer blockbuster. In the following two days the movie grossed around 1.1 billion yen with an attendance of one million visitors!
The movie built on the momentum and remained at the top until August 2 (the 11th day of release) with a box office revenue of 2.5 billion yen. Excluding Disney’s Finding Dory (released on July 16th), ‘ONE PIECE FILM GOLD’ currently has the record for the fastest ticket sales among all of the movies screened this summer.
August is usually the month when people try to get a few days off to relax. Ticket sale numbers are expected to grow since more people are certainly going to check Luffy’s new adventure.
