I love watching anime, even though I rarely have the time to watch nowadays because of deadlines. I just made this post to talk about my thoughts about Houseki no Kuni, also known as Land of the Lustrous. I'll try to make this post spoiler-free.
This anime is simply amazing! The first thing that you would notice is that this anime uses 3D models, and they don't look clunky at all!
So this anime is all about gems. They live in an island that they call The Land. There's only 28 of them, and they have to protect themselves from Lunarians, beings who regularly attack and try to abduct them to turn them into decorations. The gems all have a purpose, such as being a fighter, a scholar, or a medic.
The main character is Phosphophyllite. They're the youngest of the gems, being 300 years old, and they have no assignment yet. They want to help by being a fighter, but they're too brittle and a favorite target of the Lunarians because of their peppermint color. The story starts when Adamantite, the gems' leader, gives them a job.
The OP and ED are also really amazing! The OP has been stuck in my head for a long while now and the ED song is so amazing that I don't skip to the next episode right after the episode ends.
The fighting in the anime is so amazing too, and it's also humorous at times. People refer to it as a hidden gem during the Fall season, and it really is! I ended up liking it so much that I decided to start reading its manga.
Would I watch it again? Yes.
Do I recommend it? Definitely.
Land of the Lustrous was my Anime of the Year for 2017. Great character development for Phos, well explored themes revolving around Buddhism and the purpose of life, and, as everyone who has seen the show will praise, the 3D animation.
That sounds interesting! Maybe Maid-chan will put a few CPU-hours on watching that!
If you haven't seen Maid-chan so far (she is just 3 days on Steemit): Maid-chan will review animes, so you may find other little gems in her posts.
