Summer 2021 Anime (What I'm anticipating)
Not to start off on a pessimistic note, but I'm not too excited about the upcoming summer season, at least in comparison to the next two seasons that will come after (fall 2021 and winter 2022), however, there are a few shows that are worth talking about.
Let's get this out of the way first, the shows that are getting new sequels:
-Kobayashi-san's Maid Dragon.
-That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
-Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei.
-Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
-My Next Life as a Villainess.
Personally I haven't watched any of them, but if you're a fan of these, they'll air on July so keep an eye on them.
As for the original titles, there are 3 shows that I'm anticipating this season:
-Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki (How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom).
Honestly the only Isekai anime I liked from the recent years is Ascendance of a Bookworm, and I'm getting similar vibes to it from this show.
It's made by J.C.Staff, which is not a big deal since they've had their fair share of good, generic, and bad titles, but the Director "Watanabe Takashi" seems interesting, although he's not particularly popular but he has a pretty good history, having directed Kino's Journey and Boogiepop (the old versions), and worked on the Storyboard of Death Note and Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
The story also looks interesting, as the protagonist is supposed to be a "realist" who gets isekaied into a fantasy kingdom and helps rebuilding its economy, so instead of getting an over powered protagonist it'll be a smart one for once.
-Vanitas no Carte.
With "Studio Bones" slapped on it, I guess many people are already planning to watch this, but let me elaborate further.
If you've watched/read Pandora Hearts, you'll know what to expect from this one as it was made by the same creator, it's a shounen series as well but is about vampires and takes place in 1900 Paris.
The show will also have "Yuki Kajiura" as its music composer, who's very popular when it comes to music, she's done a lot of shows including the modern versions of Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero, Aldnoah.Zero, Madoka Magica, Sword Art Online, and Tsubasa Chronicle, so I wouldn't blame you for bookmarking this show just based on that.
The director may be a hit or miss for most people, "Itamura Tomoyuki" directed the Monogatari series, so expect some weird camera work.
-Sonny Boy.
Made by Madhouse, a studio that has fallen out of relevence since the last time they made a big hit (One Punch Man), but a lot of people still look up to their new titles, the fact Sonny Boy is original makes it a mystery box that might end up being a pleasant surprise.
The director is Shingo Natsume who worked on most of Madhouse's recent shows, so make of that what you will. Also it seems like it'll be a Sci-Fi and it has an interesting art style (I can't find a trailer for it though), so it's already hard to know what to expect, but sometimes that's what attracts people to a show.
Although there are a few other shows that I'm interested in (Scarlet Nexus, Shiroi Suna no Aquatope, and Peach Boy Riversdale), it's just mere curiosity, I dont have much to say about them, and probably won't even watch all of them.
So that's my list, share me your thoughts, and have a good day.
