White eared barbet In My Garden

White-eared barbet (Afrikaans, die witoorhoutkapper) occurs in a band from Tanzania and Kenya to Mozambique and KwaZulu-Natal, generally preferring moist woodland. Further-est south where these delightful little birds are seen is Amanzimtoti where I live.

Conditions for these little birds is ideal, with many trees offering holes as nests, with patches of wooded land well for the moment, if development stops ripping everything out, suburban life most folk have large trees on the property to attract nature into the garden and shade in the hot summers.

Whilst typing away on my keyboard I heard this high pitched ‘kreep, kreep, kreep – krip, krip, krip’, immediately thought that is not a call I normally hear in the garden, camera in hand took a quiet walk around, up in the tree these to White earned barbet were in full song, well more like rap-artists!

End of day, enjoying the last of the sun at the top of a tree sparse of leaves, serenading song ringing through the garden here is the little bird vocalizing in a voice I have not heard before. Perhaps the white-eared barbets have found somewhere to roost close at hand, it is the start of the breeding season October to January.

Normally seen in couples, they roost communally in groups of approximately ten in the holes of old/dead trees. Fast straight flight at speed hawking moths, also enjoy eating insects and fruit, both our large trees in the front garden offer berries at this time of year which when ripened will attract insects.

Thought for today: Two birds disputed about a kernel, when a third swooped down and carried it off. ~ African Proverb

They are cute.

Very small with big voice @abbiephoto

Living near farmland we get a lot of mice and voles, of which the cat tends to bring them to the door minus their heads!

Cat's do love the challenge of catching mice, not so nice when they display the catch in the home.

I actually not a bird liver, i love dog and guinue pig infact i have 3 guinue pig under my care now. They are ecconinmical and stress free to rear. Kryptonia @mrlopez

Pets take a lot of strain off of us, I do believe every home should have a pet. The birds are wild birds, a genuine pleasure to watch.

I see dogs as loyal animals and i can learn from them on been loyal.

Miss my dogs @blogjeremiah my neighbours dog jumps the wall now to stay with me during the day, it is an unique experience, I have become the doggie day care center.

I love to see the birds in my garden in the morning with my coffee and in the evening just before sundown. Thank you for the pictures.

Having a big tree right outside my window where I work I can glance out to see who is visiting throughout the day, makes life interesting.

Very cute birds.

Now that I am in Malaysia I actually do see birds again. In Thailand I was only seeing pigeons in the city and nothing in Northern Thailand since they set up nets and eat them!

I have a 9th floor balcony now that looks out onto a reasonably wooded area. I am seeing birds I have never see before on my life all the time and they are wonderful and exotic to me.

Today my camera is the issue - I only have the one on my cell phone and it is not ideal. I hope soon I will catch some of these birds to show you - or even one of them!

Lovely to hear that you have found somewhere with a bit of nature closer to you, look forward to seeing your bird photography from the region Sharon @fitinfun

excelente manera de relajarse viendo las actividades de las aves, saludos id kryptonia @reyos69

De acuerdo contigo, es muy relajante escucharlos en una canción, mirarlos, tener un gran día.

Some birds in my country are domestic animals but i do not really like to see how many people here keep them in jail they must be free. It is really hard to me to see that. Kryptonia id @mejia_martinez

Never cage birds, I agree with you, it is like a jail sentence for them @me2017

The animals aren't very interesting in London. Most of them work in the city

Animals Were Helpful In Back They Were Only Transport for Humans and Meal And they Are Still Helpful For Human Kinds

@joanstewart Blessings to see you back Lady Joan and you have a winner here with the little "tackers". Never seen them before, but they look very cool! Blessings!

Don't see them that often, always lovely and entertaining to find new arrivals in the back garden.

Here in Northwest Indiana we have all kinds of different birds. I see a lot of Geese, Mallards and some Hawks this time of year.

Those all sound like quite big birds, must be entertaining to watch them.

nice birds.

Normally we enjoy birds. When we go to bird sanctuary we will feel refreshed.

Muy geniales fotos, bonito par de pájaros, ¿me pregunto si son pareja lol? Saludos y un fuerte abrazo. #conoceme

In my state Kerala we have many common birds with beautiful voice, In that I personally like the one who can imitate human voice if kept in captivity as parrots.

My another favorite common bird is the one with cap.

We have the Myna bird over here...

Indian Myna (Acridotheres tristis)

The Indian Myna, Acridotheres tristis, is native to southern and south-eastern Asia and was introduced to South Africa in about 1900.

A few individuals introduced into Natal multiplied into millions, and are now found over a large portion of eastern South Africa. They are now considered as one of the world's 100 worst alien invasive species (Global Invasive Species Specialist Group) and do not warrant protection. Myna's compete aggressively with many indigenous species, and tend to replace them in areas where Myna populations are well established. https://www.sanparks.org/groups/birders/alien_birds.php

The second picture looks a fascinating bird, not seen in our part of the world that I know of @dhaneshpk

Yes, the 1st bird is called Myna in our local language. As it can imitate human voice like a parrot[ Thattha-in local language] Myna is also known as Madathattha.

The second one is called Red-whiskered bulbul

We get the bulbul but never seen one like that, it is rather pretty.

Our bulbul has yellow feathers around it's bottom, brown wings and black head as well.

Love the proverb . Hopefully that won’t happen to Steemit with all the politics #steemitbloggers

That is what happens when bickering carries on @blanchy agree, hope it doesn't happen here.

Tweet tweet.

Lovely birds :)

Their white ears make them look so adorable. Haven't seen those here in Malaysia so thanks for sharing about them @joanstewart :)

#steemitbloggers

They are very cute with the white plumage @happycrazycon

Its great to have birds around as, as their voice are very sweet. Usually we have many birds which are common and keep coming every day in our small garden.

Birds that rap!!
Liked that African proverb...
Thank you for sharing and kreepkeep on steeming :D

Many birds arrive at my house, because I have several trees and it is really relaxing to listen to their sounds.
@rocaxel Id Kryptonia.

Trees in the garden or near to you home, always a treat to see the visitors come and go @rocaxel

a lot of migrating birds here in the island city where I live, their flocks are so refreshing to watch especially in the afternoon where they love to make chain formation as they fly

Migrating birds must be lovely to watch, we have small groups on the move of goose/ducks not very often though @buuroots

I totally enjoy your posts, you have a big fan here @joanstwart. You are full of knowledge, great with photos, a real 5 ⭐️ blogger, you deserve to- rewards. These birds are so sweet and the African proverb right to the point. Thank you for sharing 😊

Thank you for your kind words @starjewel have a wonderful day.

I love seeing wildlife (especially birds) from other parts of the world. These are great captures, @joanstewart - thanks so much for sharing them! Oh, and congrats on the #steemitbloggers Rally Upvote!

It was a lovely surprise from #steemitbloggers really appreciated @traciyork

These seemed like very rare species of birds. Don't recall ever seeing it around my neighborhood.

That must have been a surprise @joanstewart, we only have the red collared barbets in our garden! I like that proverb, it's so true, we should not let any opportunity pass us by hey:)

Red collared barbet is another visitor to the garden here.

Proverb always give direction in one way or another, might have been carried down by word of mouth, ultimately we live in the present with advice from the past being sound words of wisdom.

I am blessed to see alot of black capped chicadees, bluejays, robins, a few hawks and canaries <333 I am thankful to see these beautys, the white eared barbet - they are quite lovely! :D

Variety around your area sound lovely, never heard of black capped chicadees, could not imagine living in a concrete jungle where birds are sparse.
