I'll trade you one good buck for another!
These days, I'm getting a little particular. When it comes to my rabbits, I'm actually breeding for color now, so I made a trade with my neighbors recently.
A RABBIT SWAP!
Not all that long ago, we changed our diet and got away from eating things like rabbits. They still have some uses and purposes on our homestead, so we will still be keeping some, but we will no longer be eating them. That said, I am also having some fun now breeding for color traits. Since our neighbors @bluerthangreen and @allforthegood also breed rabbits, and since they had one that was a color I desired, I recently worked out a trade. This buck (male) above was completely unrelated to their rabbits, so it was the one that I traded to them.
The "natural" color is the one that I'm currently breeding for. This is our natural colored doe (female) who we have been breeding. You'll notice that in a lot of ways, she almost looks like a wild rabbit.
The buck that we bread her with last time was this one, who has a lot of natural coloration, but also had some white on him. When they got married and bred, we had some nice coloration in their offspring.
This daughter of theirs looks a lot like her father, but some others were completely the natural color. There were some black and white ones in that litter too, and it is always interesting to see which colors show up in the next generation, since the parents can carry genes that don't necessarily show up visually.
The buck that we got from @bluerthangreen and @allforthegood in the trade was a solid natural colored one. Here is a photo of him meeting our doe. Hopefully soon they will get married and have some kids, and then we will see what they look like. It's just a fun hobby and an opportunity to teach our @little-peppers about genetics and things. We will see what happens.
As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

I think rabbit and goat have a way to maintain a color breed.
I recalled Jacob was breeding for his father in law and he did something to get a certain color and differentiate his flocks from Laban.
I guess you are almost doing similar for the rabbit, is it possible?
Yeah, interestingly enough, most of our sheep are Jacob's Sheep, and have spots!
How come you guys aren't eating rabbits anymore? I heard they're very lean and great in a stew. Also, you get a nice supply since you can breed them every 2 months. It must to cool being able to breed them for color. It's a surprise every time a new litter comes!
wow..they are so cute..i just love it..
The golden coloured one you are holding ia my favorite. It's so pretty .
It would be cool to see that colour shared around and get mixed with other great colours.
Awesome idea @papa-pepper as always sir.
I like the black rabbit i was told black rabbit are more stronger, little pepper is learning from the legend is so lucky to have you has father @papa-pepper weldon
Very good thank
We like rabbit meat and also have a use for the manure. So for us, colour is not as important. Do you plan on raising them to sell?
This rabbit are looking good @papa-pepper but what is the breed of this rabbit are they landrace?
What beautiful animals, they are very adorable, sincerely rabbits seem to me the most tender animals in the world
Although I don't live on a farm, @papa-pimienta, as a child I had a gray rabbit. They gave it to me on my birthday. I remember playing with him a lot. One day he woke up dead in the garden. My mother told me she had purged herself maybe with one of the bushes. I always remember that story when I see the rabbits. I think they're beautiful and special. Thank you for sharing.
As always, great post. Love the pictures (((hugs)))

So awesome to swap! We have an Farm swap meet on saturdays, such a nice way to meet people and build your farm. What kind of rabbits are yours? What kind of rabbit did you get? I raise flemish giants.

That is one amazing breed Papa. Have you seen the New Zealand White breed? Always my favourite with the Blue Beveren. I love the New Zealand White due to their red eyes.
Good bargain Papa.
