Do Spiders Need To Drink?

in #animals7 years ago (edited)

Like any other living organism needs water, spiders do too. Their style of taking in fluid is just a little bit different than our everyday ways.

Web-Spinning Spider

To make things even more awkward, you get different spiders who drink in different manners. For instance, a web-spinning spider latches the dew that is caught on their web, some just devour the whole web, including all the water droplets.

Hunting Spiders

Then you get hunting spiders, now they just drink some nectar or dew droplets off of flowers as they hunt. Nothing special about that.

Desert Species

Some of the desert species just snatch some water from the bodies of their prey. Like the black widow. Talk about being lazy...

Now this is just plain strange

Spiders actually drink all the time. They liquefy their prey. That's right. they don't physically eat at all!

Here is a photo of a Giant Female Redback Spider busy liquefying a deadly Eastern Brown Snake.

Just to make your day

Here you can see the cutest spider ever. They think it's in fashion to wear tiny water droplets as fancy hats.

So there you have it. Some spiders aren't as scary as you thought, now is it?
