Chinstrap penguins being Chinstrap penguins

Who doesn't like penguins? There are not many people in this world when you mention penguins and they do not reply with a Aaawww... so cute!, even if they have never seen an actual penguin in person, whether it be in the wild or at their local zoo/aquarium. Of the penguin species that I have encountered working down south in the Crystal desert I must say that Chinstrap penguins are by far my favourite. They are feisty, somewhat aggressive and very curious to who or what is on their beach or near the breeding colonies.

When one or a couple of these little guys decide to come closer to you and investigate what you are it does mean for a great photo opportunity as they will stand their staring at you, looking you up and down for a few minutes before continuing on their way with their daily routine.

During the summer period these animals will congregate into large colonies and breed with their partner and no these penguins to not mate for life and are not as loyal to their partner as you have been lead onto believe. Colony sizes can get up to 1,000's of individual animals, which makes that area quite noisy with their constant calling to one another.
