Blue herons are quite the majestic birds to photograph, which could be due to their graceful appearance and their foraging areas being along the shallow coastal shorelines. I find them particularly more exciting to photograph when the colours of twilight begin to appear. It is quite well known that these birds chase after small fish and will swallow their prey whole, which can be quite detrimental, as they also known to choke on their prey too.
They forage the most during dawn and dusk in these regions and have various foraging behaviours from standing still, slowly walking, pecking, diving head first into the water and even swimming/floating on the surface amongst many more tactics. It is a true testament to their adaptive ability to have such a wide range of foraging behaviours, which allows them to be such a successful predator.
