Dragonflies live around the water because on the surface of water dragonfly adults put eggs that will then hatch into larvae. But dragonflies do not live in any water. Dragonflies have to live in clean water, because they can not survive in contaminated water or whose water ecosystems are disturbed. If there are many dragonflies in a water source, it indicates that the water source is clean, not polluted. Therefore, in ancient times the Navajo Indians drew the symbol of a dragonfly as a sign of clean water.
I do like dragonflies. They keep down the mosquito population. The adults catch adult mosquitoes and the larva or whatever they are called catch and devour the mosquito larva. They are rely vicious when in the water stage, it took me years to figure out what they were. If you put them in a glass and drop in a worm, they will attack and devour it ferociously.
