in #animal2 years ago (edited)

Frogs are amphibians. They live in water and on land. Frogs have smooth, wet skin. They have long, powerful legs. Frogs can jump very high. They can also swim. Frogs eat insects.

Frogs are amphibians and have been around for millions of years. They are one of the oldest groups of vertebrates, and fossils of frogs have been found that date back to the early Triassic period. Frogs evolved from a group of fish-like animals called lobe-finned fishes. These animals had legs and could walk on land, but they still needed to return to the water to breed.
The first true frogs appeared during the late Jurassic period. These frogs were similar to modern frogs, but they were much larger. Some of these early frogs were as big as a human! Frogs continued to evolve and diversify throughout the Cretaceous period. By the end of this period, there were many different species of frogs.
Frogs are found on every continent except Antarctica. They are most diverse in the tropics, but they can also be found in temperate regions. There are more than 6,000 species of frogs, and new species are still being discovered.
