RE: Compulsory Schooling is Child Imprisonment, Part 3

in #anarchy7 years ago

Excellent precis on compulsory, and public education generally. I barely survived public school (srsly) and homeschooled my sons as a single father working full time.

I have never regretted one moment of the time it took to teach them that learning was fun.

I had to break the law every day I did it, but not one of my employers ever said one negative word about it. Every one of them paid my kids to learn all day long.

The people of America are fully aware of the ways that public school, particularly elementary and middle school, harm the ability of children to learn.

Thanks!

That reminds me of this dude--also a single dad--I used to know who homeschooled his two sons from second grade through high school. He pulled them out of first grade because he'd noticed their loss of interest in learning. He was a self-employed carpenter and his kids helped him with carpentry and operating the family business. And when I met the three of them, they were attending massage therapy school together as a family. That was before I had my daughter, but meeting them was profoundly impactful on my later decision to homeschool as a young mother living below the poverty line. I thought, if that carpenter dude could do it, so can I.

Most inspiring thing I've read in a long time.
