Secondhand Lions isn't explicitly anarchist, but it's a superb coming-of-age story with elements of personal integrity and responsibility

The Princess Bride is pretty damned anarchistic.

The Outlaw Josey Wales and a number of other westerns are fairly anti-State, too, when they demonstrate the brutality of military action.

It's been a long time since I've watched The Princess Bride. Time for another viewing I guess!

I haven't seen The Outlaw Josie Wales or Second Hand Lions but the latter is on my DVD shelf (from my wife's collection).

Thanks for your suggestions!

Followed. I'll be looking forward to this series! I love this movie, and the full Firefly series. As an An-Cap, I ate it up.

Thanks for the comment and follow. I'm not sure how frequently I'll add to this series, but I think once a week is a reasonable expectation.

Very reasonable. I do a weekly podcast and that is enough work for me.

While I enjoy the movie I almost think it was made entirely by mistake since Joss Whedon has demonstrated himself politically at least to be VERY pro empire and pro taking away people's freedoms for percieved "greater goods". I do respect Adam Baldwin tho.

These themes come up over and over in Joss Whedon's work. Serenity is no isolated case.

You're right about Whedon's political leanings. I think the man is greatly confused...

i know this movie and like it too. remindes me of the 5th element which is also a great movie.

It's one of the greatest.

Thank you for sharing, I want to watch it right now :)

If you have time, watch Firefly first. It's on Netflix!

Thank you, it is in the queue. Preparing some popcorn :).

It is worth. I have them all on disc

It was really worth to watch all of them :) Thank you again.

Wow man, after reading this, I'm definitely going to have to watch Serenity and probably watch Firefly first. I'm honestly really pumped to see what other film recommendations you have coming up!

You won't regret it. Firefly/Serenity is awesome!

You should definitely watch the show, Firefly, first. Otherwise the movie and the characters won't mean as much, and also, you'll get some payoff of mysteries posed in the series.

"I'm a leaf on the wind, see how I soar!" Goddamn this was a great movie. It also introduced (well if you exclude Kinky Boots) the world to the talents of Chiwetelu Ejiofor as The Operative, an agent for a better world damned to never see it by his own actions. Great great work.

He plays such a fascinating character.

Truth. Most villains of the well-intentioned extremist variety are delusional about their goals and the actions required to achieve those goals. In other words, they are delusional about themselves.

The Operative on the other hand was fully self-aware. He was only delusional about his masters, not himself.

I saw it a year ago or so, it wasnt mindblowing but very decent.
good review, looking forward for more anarchy movies :)

I agree Joss Whendon shows are awesome. I also love firefly and Serenity. But I thought this was a LIST of movies. So far I only count 1 review.

This is the first entry in a series. So you can stay tuned for more.

Can't stop the signal!

Great series idea. I'd nominate the Pirates movies, at least the first 3.

I hadn't thought of those. Maybe I'll give them a rewatch in the near future.
