What are our values - the ways we apply major changes and how we introduce them

in #anarchy6 years ago

First of all let me make a disclaimer that I am a big proponent of blockchain social mediea and do think it has potential to open borders of how we understand social networking. In the following brief text I will describe some of my uppleasant feelings about the experience I have had recently on the HyperSpace platform and my general concerns about applying changes to crypto ecosystems, it's a little overdramatised to make the example more vivid and fun to read.

And so...this is the story of how I experienced the price of creating a space got up.

Was counting and collecting AMPs to be able to create a space and finally reached the number I needed which gave some nice feeling of small accomplishment...Wanted to create a Space and almost did it but thought it would be better to think twice as this action has much more value than just creating a post on say instagram or whatever classic social media. Had a busy week then at work and lots of stuff to do on computer too. While driving the car had some time to conversate with friends about the possible name for the future space and contect we can deliver there. At some point one seemed to be more applicable than the others so I decided to create it once my work project was over. Logged in in here yesterday with the nice feeling and texts ready to fill in the form and discovered to my surprise that now it costs not lil more but almost 5 times more than the expected amount.

Let me state clearly that I do understand that it's all in the alpha stage and so on and there are many changes to be applied to make the platform eco system better and probably we all were warned couple of times that the equations may be subject to change at any given time without warning, but as I feel this is some issue of approach. This whole story gave me an impression of being again a small pawn inside a huge system just like we all are inside the goverment and bank systems and so on, and from which we all try to escape in the new space of blockchain ecosystems where we seem to have at least some feeling of having control (at least of our private keys) and value inside a community.

I understand well that changes have to be applied in order for a product to developed but may be we all can think about the ways they are to be imposed on us. Let me brainstorm some ideas and expand further:

  1. maybe this same change should have touched only the new people on the platform and the older could still create a space with the same amount of AMPs as they were told before. more lines of code - yes, but also more respect to an individual member of the platform.
  2. maybe there could have been a warning somewhere on top of the web site much in advance of the change so that people could get ready for that. maybe the same could have been done inside a newsletter in an email. if something of this was done, please share your experience in the comments as I obviously missed it )
  3. maybe thinking of some other line for the message instead of "bad news", because this is literally a bad news to some extent.

let's try to value our time and energy we invest on the new platforms more and try to get away from the "classic" experiences of "previous" lives where s cell phone company changes fees 3 days after you joined them, fiat currency standard changes with lil or no possibility to exchange for foreigners (happened to me with Swedish Krones, older swedish money just stopped functioning in Russia and the only way to change it was to go to Sweden, luckily we had a friend there). Now this stuff gets to blockchain space as well, bunch of EOS activists (thank you guys) try to create solutions for people who didn't manage to swap tokens before the correct date last summer. I mean c'mon, if someone was on holiday or sick or whatever, the true value of something should be there no matter of your fast actions. Exchanges warning people that they won't be able to withdraw without KYC like couple of days prior the change. yes yes yall, kinda like this, hope you got the feeling of what I mean, wish everybody just pleasant experiences in the new Spaces and let us move on to the new Realities.

peace and much love from Russia.
