They'd definitely be young adult by many parents' standards, but I read a lot of Robert Heinlein's stuff as a kid, and it has more to do with my philosophy now than most anyone else, besides Tolkien. It wasn't until later that I discovered her, but all of Ursula K. Le Guin's books are great anarchist sci-fi as well, I'd recommend starting with The Dispossessed".
