North Dakota Native Americans are having land stolen for the Dakota Access Pipeline and need help, protest stops pipeline development

in #anarchism8 years ago

Yesterday I wrote about the U.S. using eminent domain to steal land from Native Americans to be used for an oil pipeline, the Dakota Access Pipeline, that stretches for over a thousand miles. A 36.75% stake in the Bakken Pipeline Project, which includes the Dakota Access Pipeline and the Energy Transfer Crude Oil Pipeline, is up for sale and pending a cash purchase of $2 billion dollars.

Right? Steal land and sell it for a profit. We are in the wrong business.... if we didn't have souls or morals.

The non-violent protest in North Dakota caused a work stoppage at the construction site by youths getting into the construction area and standing around the equipment. The work stoppage is said to give time for the tribal leaders and officials to work out an agreement. The length of the stoppage will depend on how conversations go. Up to 28 individuals have been arrested.

I don't know about you but I wouldn't trust any contract or treaty that the government signs or pretends to accept. The reality is that Hillary Clinton will probably be our next president. She doesn't honor anything. This is happening because trust was misplaced in a government; a government that doesn't honor treaties or contracts (continuous violations of the Constitution?). The only thing that should be acceptable is that the land is given back to the people who it was taken from, the Rightful owners, and that the rivers that provide nourishment to the land are not contaminated. If a problem happens do you trust the government to clean it up?

Remember the BP Oil spill? Do you think the government let mainstream media run the truth?

The Rezpect Our Water site was set up to promote a Change.org petition that focuses on protecting the rivers and waterways throughout Native American land.

Thank you so much for spreading awareness about this. It unfortunately seems that Native American issues are so easily swept under the rug and are rarely covered by the mainstream media. So thanks again for using your platform to do so.

Of course. I put money into advertising my other article on our Facebook site and got a ton of responses. Many have no clue this is going on. Wish there was more I could do, but hopefully this type of stuff helps.

Up voted and followed. Thanks for helping to raise awareness about this important issue! As an anarchist/voluntarist, do you participate in politics much, i.e. do you vote? Or do you refrain from doing so in order to try to prevent lending any credibility to that system?

@nathanbrown49 Thanks! Yea I'm all about supporting a cause when rights are being violated. Check out my article on Why taxation is theft and What is a Police Enforcement Officer and what are their duties with regards to our rights?

I vote in the actual election, never in the nominee process though. I research each position and vote for someone who is at least is libertarian leaning. I don't think it helps but it doesn't take much effort to vote. I would love to see more anarchists/voluntarists take up positions throughout the government pushing for the abolishment of the state.

Why don't you vote in the primaries?

I don't see my vote being worth anything, really, with all of the corruption. Plus being an anarchist I have issue with voting for rulers. I don't think we will be able to vote our freedom back.

But the same logic applies in the primaries as it does in the final votes.

@nathanbrown agreed, which is why I only do it for the final vote. Why would I waste effort twice? I would never have chosen Weld has VP for the Libertarian Party, because he isn't Libertarian, so now the party is stuck with a Republican as the VP pick. The LP has already been corrupted. I will vote for Johnson this year to give the LP the votes to help get to %15. Otherwise I wouldn't even vote for Johnson because he is a libertarian leaning leftist, it should be Ron Paul. If you advocate for the state you are in the wrong since the primary function of the state is to restrict freedom, to rule.

Now I do put more effort into local races and will vote on those because my vote has more weight and can effect greater change, but again I am still dealing with the state. :)

This is terribly sad. I guess this country still hasn't had its fill. This reminds me of this pic I posted. I truly hope the government does what is right.

It is sad. The government is incapable of doing what is right in this situation as this is what governments do, violate rights.

@jeffreyahann When I was a child, I used to believe that " We the People " were the Government. Sadly, as an adult I now realize that there is no "We" and it's just "the People." And "the People" definitely NOT the Government.

THIS IS SOMETHNG THAT SHOULD BE COVERED IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA. THERE SHOULD BE MORE ATTENTION PUT INTO THE STORY OF THE NATIVE AMERICANS LSING THEIR RESERVATIONS. SHOCKING.

I agree. Mainstream media is ignoring it so people won't attempt to stop the sale of stolen land.

BY THE WAY, DOESN'T THE FIRST PICTURE BRING BACK THE IMAGE OF THE BRITISH SWIPING THE NATIVES? AND IS IT 6 CENTURIES LATER?
