AMD is trying to make another comeback into the CPU world.
There are three major markets AMD is trying to target
- Datacenters
- Gaming
- Personal computers
AMD made a big move by announcing the EYPC single socket server and future 7nm wafers. AMD did a jump from 14nm to 7nm, whereas Intel still working on 10nm wafers. AMD it trying to move quicker with lot of be above average products. If they execute and price it more competitive, there are major market share to capture. Intel owns 99% of datacenter market.
Intel always works on replying back with another level of products, more like a waiting and deliver a better product than it's competitors. What is the next Intel move ? We have to wait and watch. Intel never disappoints based on it's past decisions with CPU.
It's great that AMD are back and pushing the envelope. This will inevitably push Intel to innovate more and (hopefully) drop their prices to compete. I'm definitely an Intel fan but appreciate the competition from AMD
