Hey Everyone,
Hope all is well!
I am Alive and I am a proud maroon descendant. Maroons are, as Wikipedia says, descendants of Africans in the Americas who formed settlements away from slavery. I am one of the maroon descendants who were split in groups, such as the Saamaka's and the Ndjuka's.
This picture was made by me of a few family members for whom a feast was held in celebration of their adulthood. In this occasion the females receive a fabric called Pangi and the males receive a fabric called Kamisa. The Pangi and Kamisa are pieces of fabric that serve as a shawl or a wrap around the body.
I feel a great connection to this culture and have a dream of having this celebration with all of my brothers.
