Pencil work of a Palm Wine Tapper

in #airhawk-project2 years ago

In continuation of the series on Pencil drawings. I ran into this old draw book of mine done some time back and I saw this drawing on the first page. When I drew this work, I called it Ogbuji the palm wine tapper as respect to a very renowned palm wine tapper in my community then. Ogbuji is a man in his late 50's but very agile and athletically fit. He could climb as many as 15 to 20 palm trees in the money, and still repeat the same fit in the evening. I recalled vividly on that day that I saw him coming from the part that leads to Imo River a tributary of the great River Niger in south eastern Nigeria , he was holding a locally made twine that looks more like a climbing rope, a native jar and a local made cup(udu). He was bare chested and wore a short whose color I can get to distinguish if it is white or brown. Although he was bare footed he still came with a bicycle which he parked about 50 meters from where I saw him. The drawing was an imaginary combination of what I saw with my eyes and the details of the environment I can remember at that moment.

I tried as much as possible to visualize the man, the environment and the items he was carry when I saw him and decided to make a drawing of him(Ogbuji) for my class exhibition then when I was still studying architecture in my early university days. Although it was just a simple drawing at that time, I never thought about sharing it globally but today, #Hive and it's eco-system as made it possible through #Ecency my preferred tool for writing blogs and contents.
