Hello Air-Clinicians & Friends,
This is the ninth week of our weekly public forum discussions and it keeps getting better and better
The last discussions we had have no doubt revealed more a lot about the healthcare/hospital settings to our audience.
Many can see reasons why things are done the way they are and it gladdens us that #AIR-CLINIC, the first ever healthcare system built on the Steem blockchain is pioneering this initiative.
The discussion for last week was on what form of route of administration of drugs does one prefer, either injections or tablets and quite a number of persons commented.
Those who contributed were @rebeccafl, @gabeman, @menoski, @dubem-eu, @vicspics, @maflex, @prettyabby, @mickyscofield, @simplicitytech, @seunnla, @teslim, @kingernie @worldgreatest, @pangoli, @the.chiomz, @dammyzee, @emmakkayluv, @khusairi

We appreciate every single one of you for taking your time to drop comments.
This week, we would like you all to tell us your own view as it concerns this EMERGENCY RESPONSE TIME; HOW BEST CAN IT BE?
In other words, we understand when a call is put forward for emergency to a hospital, the time between when the caller puts the call through and when he or she gets the necessary help can be all that matters in saving that life.
Let's have you all tell us what you think, is the response time better in developed countries than developing countries, are they ways or ideas you would want to share that can improve it and also if there has been any incidence you witnessed or experienced.

Seems lots of Nigerians have issues with the emergency response in their health sector but I guess you have not compared it to other places. Well I cannon speak much on this as I have never been to the hospital as an emergency patient before but the attitude some nurses show and their lack of interest in patients issues make me wanna belive plus government issues with buying ambulances and never finding the physical cars when there is change of government..... mehn, let me pause here
Need i say more? i wouldn't term what we have in somee healthcare centers across the nation as "instant" or "emergent." some countries are better off than the others.
And like dubem pointed out, so much has gone wrong with our sirens on the highway. Even when there isn't any need to, they turn it on anyways. first its the police, then empty ambulances heading nowhere in particular, etc. even our politicians aren't left out!
@air-clinic i dont think the emergency response thing works in a developing country like nigeria. Emergency response works in developed countries because they have an organised and functional system. I think we in the developing countries have a lot of work to do.
It saddens my heart when people die because of poor emergency response structures in nigeria.
I believe we lack not just adequate facilities to handle emergency response but also the mindset for it. We can see some Nigerians first reactions to accident is snapping while the victim struggle in pain. It's not just about the facilities but are the emergency response team ready to do the work?
I personally believe that emergency response time depends on two factors: Staff Training and Facility Improvement.
Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support really plays an important role in the emergency setting. Health care members should be competent enough to deliver quality emergency response through trainings and seminars. I believe the BLS of the American Heart Association just recently changed once more, which was shown to be an improvement to the 2015 AHA BLS guidelines. So it is important to keep health care providers updated on these new updates.
Secondarily, the facilities and equipment of the hospital needs to be good as well. Efficiency is an important factor in the emergency setting which is use materials need to be readily available, rooms are adequately spaced, resources are properly managed to ensure that response time is at its best
Hey @josejirafa,
thank you for your contribution to the public health forum.
Knowledge of BLS & ALS are all needed by healthcare workers in the emergency field. However, the problems may be larger than that in developing nations.
Emergency response is far better in developed countries. In Nigeria where I'm from, there is nothing like emergency response because if you call you might get your response the next day, so people don't even bother calling. It will save more lives if it is implemented in developing countries and if it is adhered to. @air-clinic
Hey @Chuzywhyte,
Thank you for participating in Air-Clinic Public Forum. We are glad you have some positive suggestions to make emergency situation better globally especially in developing nations. Cheers!
Emergency response is better in developed countries than the undeveloped. To improve on this using Nigeria for instance, there is every need for reorientation especially among the so called elites who abuse sirens which are meant for use only on emergencies.
A situation where madam will send her driver to go and buy chewing gum for her and the driver will put on siren just to show off is uncalled for, this and other abuses has caused our society to overlook sirens even in real emergency situations. Government should place a total ban on the use of sirens except for emergencies only.
Hey @Dubem-eu,
Thank you for participating in Air-Clinic Public Forum. We are glad you have some positive suggestions to make emergency situation better globally especially in developing nations.
Siren must be stopped. Lolx.
Cheers!
@air-clinic Well if you are talking about developed countries then to some great extent, emergency response is very prompt and adequate as a result of good communication and first aid treatment gadgets. Coming down to this part of the world where i am, though it varies with location how prompt these services may be based on the kind of area. basically for adequate services to be achieved there is need for good communication channel to response to emergencies and prompt mobile first aid treatment.
Hey @Mayorhero,
Thank you for participating in Air-Clinic Public Forum. We are glad you have some positive suggestions to make emergency situation better globally especially in developing nations.
Good communication & prompt first aid. Noted!
Cheers!
In developing nations like nigeria for example businesses are taking more serious when its a private enterprise, i have witnessed instances where public sector emergency response agencies were called and you hear stories like no fuel in the vehicle or for a fire response team, no water, its disheartening .
my suggestions will be
Hey @Adorablechi,

Privatization of emergency services. Noted!
Cheers!
Seriously... I'm not trying to be pessimistic about the Nigerian situation but when it comes to emergency o... Forget it.. Nigeria no just dey at aaaaaallllll...
I bet in developed countries it will be better. At least from what we have seen in movies sha and what we have heard from family and friends over there...
Here in Nigeria, I doubt if our emergency number goes through sef and when they even come to get you, by the time you get to the hospital.. They just waste your time unnecessarily so what's the point...
Let's just say it.... We don't have any form of emergency services... Enough with deceiving ourselves...
Hey @Kingernie,
Thank you for participating in Air-Clinic Public Forum. We are glad you have some positive suggestions to make emergency situation better globally especially in developing nations.
You said, we don't have any emergency service. So what do we do now?
Cheers!
Emergency responders are the first on the scene of emergency incidents but mostly the time in which the come to the the point of call worsens situations, the sole aim of emergency responders is to save lives and property and bring the emergency situation under control.
We therefore need people who are more willing to be at the point of call to tackle emergency conditions.
An Ambulance Response time I feel should not exceed 19minutes.
There should always be preparedness on the side of emergency responders and they should be able to determine resource requirements and to develop plans and procedures in emergency scenes.
Thanks @air-clinic
This is my little contribution.
I'm not so sure it even works in Nigeria. I think the emergency teams here are bystanders and family members. It can be improved by actually setting up one.
Emergency response, just like good infrastructure and everything that depicts development is not as available on Developing countries like it is in developed countries.
A wholesome development would evidently affect the Health And Emergency Response System
Air EMS is a supplement to primarily land EMS deployment. Air would most often apply to a) inaccessible areas; b) extreme emergency response. In the later: extreme emergencies are supported by reliable and efficient communications networks and experienced asset management. In addition to the preliminary communications network, well-kept roads allow for faster response times.
"Road transportation network development is considered to be one of the keys to rapid modernization and development, especially in most development countries, investment for road construction and maintenance accounts for a substantial (excess of 20%) of development budgets. Road network provide accessibility and easy flow of traffic for both human being and movement of vehicles. It is discovered in our urban cities/towns the difficulties in accessibility and transportation of goods, services from one place to another due to inadequate planning and uncoordinated development planning which greatly affect access to some neigbourhood and facilities.
Road networks being the main network most country use, GIS concept like connectivity and accessibility could be used to enhance the opportunities available for the people and services providers to access places where they can carry out activities and even to foster development in the choice area." source: https://steemit.com/research/@matthiasjohn/road-network-information-systems-for-emergency-response
