Other websites - like facebook - have it. They have it to make users keep longer on the website, interact mroe and - thats the pont - to generate more ad revenue.
Do you want this - increase ad revenue? Is that the metric for steemit?
Until now I thought it is "quality content".
And don't forget that this "preference showing" is the reason for the filter bubbles and a lot of the bad stuff of conventional social networks.
In fact I am happy about contradictory posts to my views and think it is the second most important point of steemit (the fist being, of course, money :D)
It can be useful for metric (how attract and keep users) and for find people with same interests. Now we not scan all blockchain, just connection @dantheman and other users, who related with him. But if we scan all blockchain, we can find all people with same interests, for example - art lovers, politics, engineers, and etc.. I think, direct connection for similar people it is will good value for Steemit.
Yes.. And system will soon be able to detect bots ;-) What else?.. Need time and resources for develop. Now work going with team psychologists and various other scientists.
