In my opinion, the biggest problem facing autonomous cars is not the physical technology but the software.

Software is written by fallible humans. Your computer crashing is just an interruption. Even if your computer dies and you lose data and have to buy a new computer, it's just an inconvenience.

If your car's software crashes while you're moving down the road, it's likely you might be killed.

I feel sympathy for the people who write the software responsible for the first large scale autonomous car tragedy that will inevitably occur, as well as their victims.
