Putting In The Work. Getting Up-Votes And Earning On Steemit.

in #africa7 years ago (edited)

Just short of a month ago, I started my Steemit journey with big dreams and high hopes of finally having my poetry exhibited before a universal audience, and perhaps, if lucky, a chance to earn cash, was way too tempting not to be involved. Today as I enter into another fruitful (yet at times) disheartening month on the platform, I am beginning to get an inkling of the underlying forces that governed the Steemit(foodchain)ecosystem and just what it takes to be successful here on Steemit. At the beginning of my journey I was against using Bots but to be honest, Bots are an excellent tool for promoting one's work. Although I abhor Paying for up-votes, I am inclined to lean towards Bots that are geared towards generating exposure, honest feedback, and interaction within the community, not just some brazenly mendacious list of made up up-votes. What I'm honestly hoping for here on Steemit is to join or build community around Revolutionary Progressive Thought (Poetry,) and by that, I mean, writing that speaks to the soul, to the heart and conscious. Poetry that speaks out against Social Injustice, Intolerance, Racism, Bigotry, Slavery, Homelessness, Gentrification, Taxation, Oppression, Apathy, Exploitation, Incarceration, Bullying, and overall human abuse. And with that being said I ask myself how do I get the attention of my peers? Well, one way is Tags, which are great tools to use, but knowing the right tag is as important as knowing which tags are trending and which are not. Choosing the right tag can mean the difference between becoming a whale or falling prey to a whale. We are all aquatic, trying to stay afloat in this vast ocean commonly referred to as Steemit, instead of complaining about the whales and taking on water, drowning, or eventually becoming obsolete, I'm going to focus on writing, winning. If by chance I do get read, commented on, or even up-voted, fine, If not, still fine. I've grown fond of Steemit, it is my home now, and like every newbie that swam these turbulent seas before me, I will just have to learn to navigate these competitive waters, meandering my way along, finding those of like minds one Steemian at a time if need be, the old fashion grassroots way, the only way I know how, and that's, "Putting In The Work" and being consistant.
