Aceh is the only province of Indonesian archipelago that had a long fighting with the Dutch. As the last defeated area by the Dutch in Indonesia, Aceh has so many heritage and manuscript of history. Basically, Aceh and Malaysia share many connection and things in common and, especially when the Acehnese kingdom was over the Malaya peninsula during the reign of Sultan Iskandar Muda between 1607 to 1636. Aceh is very rich with its heritage, culture, tradition and religious life, as the Acehnese way of life is based on Islamic core. Aceh is the only province in Indonesia that applies the Sharia Law in the modest way. Unfortunately Aceh has a black history of rebel. Aceh freedom movement had a long conflict with Government of Indonesia for more than 27 years. Due to the tsunami disaster, the both parties signed an agreement of peace in Helsinki, Finland. Mostly from the Acehnese point of view; beside the tremendous tragedy, the tsunami wave is also a blessing from god, since it came to clean all the anger and hatred between the Aceh freedom movement and Government of Indonesia. By the helping hands from all over the worlds during the tsunami emergency and reconstruction periods, nowadays, with almost 5 million populations, Aceh has become a nice place to visit; beside of its mostly new reconstructed buildings and system, Aceh is peaceful and also full of dignity.
Banda Aceh is the provincial capital of Aceh Province, formerly known as Kutaraja until 1962. Banda Aceh is one of the oldest Islamic cities in the South East Asia. In here you will find so many traditions of which are colored by Islam. As Hinduism arrived before Islam, there are still remains the influences of Hinduism within the Acehnese culture especially in traditional ceremonies.
Banda Aceh has a tropical climate with a dry season between March to August and a rainy season between Septembers to February. The average temperature ranges between 23 Celsius to 32 Celsius degree with a relative humidity ranges 65% to 75%.
