Resins from Styrax benzoin in history have been traded in the world since 5000 years ago for mystical, medical and cosmetic needs. Styrax benzoin, otherwise known here as the Kemenyan, is native to Sumatra's forest.
To meet the needs of the world since the past, of course, the forests of Sumatra have been explored by humans for a long time. A number of ancient settlements must have been formed on the edge of the forest or in the forest to facilitate the search for this Styrax benzoin resin.
Now it's our turn to look for those ancient settlements to figure out the social system formed up to this product marketed to the world.
Here are the pictures of our journey on an expedition to find ancient settlements in the north of Sumatra.
