It is a great feature just poorly implemented. But it was an experiment. They learned from it and changing it so it cannot be abused anymore. I think being able to cross post between communities is a good idea. Right now there is no native way to do it.

So make cross-posting the same as the reblog feature except into the community, this way theres still one post, not two. I don't think this would be too hard to fix.
Get rid of cross-posting all together. I used it once or twice, the first time I didn't know exactly what it did, i was under the impression it was like the reblog feature, didn't know it was an entirely new post.
Just a suggestion.
There are changes being made to fix the abusibility of cross-posting.
