Plagiarist about to walk off with $2,800 less than 8 hours to act, I did my part.

in #abuse7 years ago (edited)

I removed about $820 USD in rewards from his posts but he still stands to walk away with $2,800 in post rewards.

I removed all votes from my bot, blacklisted him from further abuse, and tried to raise awareness but he's got a nice payday coming.

They was directed at me in this case, but fortunately, she was sadly mistaken, but I stand by my response.

Who doesn't, me?

If you think that, you haven't really paid attention to me. Show me a bot owner doing what I am. I've been writing daily Curation Digests for 6 months trying to encourage and promote quality content, and have been reporting over 1000 of users to SteemCleaners. I am now blacklisting myself at 20-50 a day.

I have done it in past, and I took shit for it, so I wanted to confirm it was the right decision.

All votes from @buildawhale and @upmyvote have been removed. I hope other Bot Owners consider the same. The user is blacklisted and joins our exclusive club

The general attitude on Steemit

But hey, tell me more about what I don't have the balls to do.

I do appreciate the chance to show off my talent to select wildly appopriate gifs though.
Sorry to interrupt your Dmania memes, carry on.

Why you should vote me as witness

I believe pay per vote programs are responsible for most of these trash posts moving to the top. Unfortunately it also helps to increase the price of steem because people buy sbd to pay for upvotes which trickles in to steem. I'm still not sure how this will affect the long term outlook of steem, Ive been thinking a lot about this lately. What do you think?

There is too much trash and too much top.

When I go to HOT section, its just a sea of pay per vote posts, it's gotten out of control!

I have no problem with pay per vote, every platform has promotion, it's the paid votes on shit content that makes a profit, that's what is bullshit.

Yes, but it's human nature to make profit, so people are not going to stop pay per upvoting there shit posts as long as its profitable. How can it be stopped?

My proposal is to mark paid upvoted content as "sponsored" or "promoted" prominently, so that other Steemians are not deceived and can distinguish organic from paid content like on other social media platforms. Similar what is already done in the promoted tab but on the trending and hot tab as well.

That's actually a great idea!

That is an awesome idea. Like when I search for content in google. I want the organic content and not the sponsored stuff. I naturally think sponsored content has vested interest and not for my benefit.

hmmm....learning

Question for everyone. And allow me to ask an ignorant question here. If payable bots was taken away here what would actually happen to the platform?

I am sure the content would be better. Not as good as reddit as there is still the vested interest of money. But would a lot of people who have a lot of money staked in steemit leave causing this platform to crash? Like when the Indonesian kicked out all the Chinese (ones with money) it fucked up their economy.

I would really like to hear some thoughts on this one.

Unfortunately it also helps to increase the price of steem

Wait.. isn't that a good thing? :S

I would have to agree with you on that. I love it here, but the steem price is more important.

I will study it as much as possible, hopefully I can be successful as you all 2018 are ready to become more profitable!
I'm sure 2018 will be a lucky day for me ,,, with the help of all of you.

Spam attack. Busted.

And that is why I have voted for you as Witness! Good work!
I love the Starship Trooper Gif!

It is hard for those of us with lower power levels and depleted power but I flagged it as well. Took another dollar off.

And here's .55 cents back!

One thing missing in this post: link to the plagiarist's shit that still needs a good flaggin.

Aside from that - I am happy to say I know you well enough not to doubt your balls to do the right thing.

(Self upvoted for visibility)

I've seen a few people flag whale posts when they are plagiarised and the whale essentially laughs in their face and tells them to 'grow up'. On top of that, the minnow that flags them barely makes a dent in their overall payout, and have left themselves open to a revenge flag from someone with far more power. Despite this I think it is less to do with fear and more to do with the 'whats the point?' feeling you get afterwards when you feel like all your effort was for nothing, even though it was the right thing to do to keep the platform pure.

I used to get really disheartened with people playing the system to their advantage, but doesn't that happen in life as well? As long as it doesn't directly affect me then there's no point in stressing about it because we can't change it unless everyone gets involved, and as someone has already commented most people live in fear of getting revenge flags and are unlikely to take on someone with that high a rating...

Minnows can't bother flagging whales unless they join a co-op like @flagawhale. But we can flag smaller folks.

Exactly right @littlescribe, we all pick our own battles and against bigger bullies we team up. The support is there and the projects working against plagiarism are working. We can simply support them and help bring their attention to any issues we find.

@lewisjfclarke, have you checked out the awesome community at MSP/PAL that I told you about a few months ago? Perhaps they will help bring your mind up a little and help you out the little ditch you see yourself in? I'm just saying with love and doing my best to help a mate without sugar coating with fluffy shit.

I just saw this by pure chance because my rewards said I got a payout for this post. Your reply didn't come up in my 'replies' folder.

I don't remember you talking about this MSP/PAL thing to be honest, and I have no idea what it means (Or a a lot of buzz words that are used on this platform for that matter...) all I know is I remember when I first joined this platform it was a great community who wanted to connect with people. Or maybe I was naive and these people who wanted to connect with me just saw a fresh newbie who would follow their site, and once I did they'd never visit my page again...

Dear Malcolm,

Not many are doing what you are doing or have been doing. I voted you for witness out of respect for your sheer concern regarding abuses. You have actively tried to tackle the issue, many times better than others, and you keep doing it. I appreciate your efforts. With sub 4000 SP, I can deal with smaller cases of abuses only. That I do. This one is for the whales to bring to zero.

I came here from the bot tracker because I just saw that your timing of the bid coincided with mine and the seemingly good vote was ruined. Lol. But I would love to see this post of your trending. We need action. All of us need to protect Steemit from all kinds of abuse. We can't leave it to others.

PS: I reported the abuse case to SmartSteem, as well as resteemed this post to help it reach more eyeballs.

How do I get/make/develop a bot tracker? I know, I'm behind the times. But I'd like to do what you do.

My votes and flags are not worth much but I resteemed this to try and bring more attention to the matter. It seems that people lack the ability to spot plagiarism, even when it's so obvious. They blindly upvote just because there is already a considerable reward on the post, so it must be "worthy".

:)

I'm mostly talking to people who have the ability to remove the votes and save people a lot of voting power.

It seems that people lack the ability to spot plagiarism, even when it's so obvious.

A lot of times it isn't obvious, I mean I know with almost no doubt it is plagiarism, but I got to be able to prove it to take action and that's another story and a huge amount of time.

They blindly upvote just because there is already a considerable reward on the post, so it must be "worthy

That the reason many celebrities here get snowball voting

It really disappoints me to see people reposting and profiting off content that is not their own. Unfortunately, this will lead to the eventual downfall of the Steemit platform if left unattended, as it does not account for the quality of the works that are being capitalized. While some of us actually work to earn, there are others who imitate to earn.

Resteemed

Thank you themarkymark! I think it's great that you are trying to show responsibility for the service that you provide. I see how you could easily just turn away from this and ignore this if you chose to.

I really don't see any problem with the bot voting system, as long as those running the Bots are willing to do as themarkymark is doing. He's really setting a great example of responsible bot management. At the same time, I'm sure there's things that he's missed but at least he's putting forth the effort.

How can we improve upon the plagiarism screening? Seems to me that once something gets flagged a certain number of times, it should automatically place the post on hold for earnings. I'm new here so I don't pretend to know the inner workings of the current system. However, it's blatantly obvious that changes are needed. We definitely don't want an over regulated, highly censored platform. On the other hand, we don't need a platform over run with plagiarist, spammers, and scammers.

It's really a shame that those of us who are striving to create quality original content, lose out to the dishonest members.

What is the process for affecting change here on steemit? The system is flawed if people don't want to waste their power with a downvote.

What is the process for affecting change here on steemit?

Figure that out let me know please.

Being that this is all decentralized I'm sure it isn't easy. In reality there is someone behind the curtain here on steemit. There must be some way to make systematic change here. If not, this place will be over run with garbage and nobody is going to want to go on competing for pennies. The value of steem will be lost and someone will recreate a derivative utilizing the good steemit had and a system to prevent steemit's flaws.

It's just hard for me to see the long-term success of steemit without addressing these serious issues. Anyway, thanks for doing your part.

I consider myself still quite new here (I came off for a few months and am now back) but when I came back only a week or so ago, I have seen so much crap posted. Mostly people plagiarising.

It's disheartening too, because for people like me who post pieces of written work which have taken hours, days, months (even years) and yet there are people here that can lift something off the internet and get rewarded for it.

I'm going to resteem this post too, although I don't have many people following me, every little helps. Just keep doing what you're doing. At least you are trying to make this platform work. Maybe we need more people to call out on those users that plagiarise? Make it known to users that this isn't accepted here? How can others help here too? I mean, if I see a post that is possibly plagiarised... what can I do about it? downvote? Maybe tag someone to look into it? I see a problem where post are just being lost, we only see posts that are curently 'trending'... we need a set place for the rules. First thing you see when you come on.

As a minnow I have bugger all clout here on Steemit, with no idea what I can do other than report plagiarism to SteemCleaners when I see it.

Source

But clearly whatever has been done so far, the message has not been getting through and the problem has not been resolved if this is still happening!

Source

Happy to lend what little support I can...

they should be banned, itys kind of illegal, and spammy too for steemit platform. better we keep our selves safe from shits,

I hope that we are safe here. Please we can't keep continue hiding bad people here. If you see any bad moves here say it.

Great job! Aren't you afraid that they will try to revenge and start to flag your posts?

Wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last.

Things like this are what will make us to believe in Steemit. That it is not a platform where all of us work hard while the priviledged few come on in the last minute to rape our collective reward pool.

excellent work! good to see plagiarists going down the drain

We need a bigger drain!

A few days ago exposing a spammer, now a plagiarist! Good job sir! Definitely leaving a "mark"! - A name that really suits you. Hat's off!

Thank you for helping to prevent plagiarism. this is the reason I voted for you as a witness.

keep up the great work bud

I think you made the right move! plagiarist should get no rewards at all.

Thanks for exposing that here ....... We need to look out for this

Good work, really wish there were more people on steemit doing what you are doing. though its still sad to see that dude still gets to walk away with some good pay upon pay out, situations like this are quite discouraging to many authentic and original bloggers. then again in all honesty who can blame the guy, guess he is just lucky. lots of folks have being known to walk away with good pay for posts and efforts that ain't worth it. so what can we say, luck fellow but sad situation.

You got a 25.29% upvote from @postpromoter courtesy of @themarkymark!

Want to promote your posts too? Check out the Steem Bot Tracker website for more info. If you would like to support the development of @postpromoter and the bot tracker please vote for @yabapmatt for witness!

My all post get unflag lol some whales are fuckn steemit we cant raise our voice against them coz they are old user good. Power etc a gang with them downvoting through bots 15 down votes in a second this whales gona fuck steemit :D coz i raised my voice agains therealwolf

This guy is not serious. This shouldn't happen in steemit. It's not real. What will it serve to earn on someone's sweat? This is not fare and I know he won't be able to get anything. And his conscious will always tell him for the worse he has done

A majority of Steemit is trying to use the lowest amount of effort for the highest amount of gain.

Now this is my kind of man!

You did a nice job there.......keep it up boss

Some people just use there bots ac and steem power to seek attention from people they do downvote and this all stuuff just to earn from the post of users they dnt want tht any other users goes to there level so they report abt plagiarist so they cn earn from tht post.. Y u guys havin problem.. People who are voting n givn money they dnt have problem then y u guys trouble lol jst to seek atentn ..earn from that post etc no one do downvote unless there is benefit for themself

Hey @themarkymark, u really did a great job. Keep rolling .

Hey @themarkymark,
How about having a team of moderators for all the bots who will keep the quality/plagiarism under check before voting?

When you have 500-1000 bids/day on a bot and 60 different bots, not sure how that is possible. But I had something I was working on but lost major funding in two different directions.

OMG. LOVE the avatar. Don't change it. Ever.

God post

I wouldn't call it a god post, I mean I'm sure there are much better ones. Maybe not as fitting use of gifs, but I think god post is kind of an exaggeration. Good post, might be more appropriate.

But thanks for stopping by.

Just look at the comment history... off to @steemcleaners we go!

No, it's definitely a god post. You're the god of blacklisting. I think she totally meant every word. Here is how we see you currently.

)

Thanks for all you do to help solve this not just by bringing it to attention but by also using ur influence to balance it out.
Unfortunately we need a LOT more of this and would be a great use of all that SP Steemit inc sits on. Seems the best solution to me as someone like you just can barely make a dent in all the plagiarism on this platform.

Upvoted and re steemed, its not enough but its something.
SteemON!

so what's my role and whats's my part , what i will do ....? you should do something .

Keep up the good work! Blacklisting is one of the most effective tools against these sorts. Have any other bot managers been working with you to do it?

i have Resteem You Post...Its really good article...hope you will upvote and like my posts and resteem my post on you wall...

thanks for upvote me....i have voted you..also..

This is hilarious! He's wondering why you didn't give him an upvote. LOL.

"Mr Shakey Head" is nearly as good as an upvote.

Hey noob! Don't be mistaken for spam! Here are some tips on how to comment on Steemit so you can get your reputation back up.

wow incredible

Good on you mark thanks for doing your part

These kind of junk contents should be strictly controlled and the plagiarists need to be penalized for such act

Such trash! Why do ppl do this to ruin the platform

@themarkymark. It is really unfair if this bot thing continue and people get away with here on steemit. For the minnows we are just trying to gain recognition with quality content, they are being cheated if people who use upvote bots have their way and their say.

I think steemit should devise a way to blacklist completely from the system.Punitive measures should be in place so that those of us who do not use bots looks stupid.

All platforms have advertising and promotion and the ones that use it do better than those who don’t. The fact it is being abused with crap is a problem though.

No, not any more reward for Plagiarist. You did a really very good.
Thanks for sharing and make awareness people.
Good job sir @themarkymark
I always flowing you after joining steem world.

Nice post

Maybe that @flagawhale thing will help.

That's new. I checked it out. Great idea....flagawhale vote chain. I resteemed it. And may join the chain.

Thanks for doing what you're doing & helping to improve the Steemit.

As far as somebody commenting about having the balls, it does't matter. It does't take any balls to poke somebody. Your actions & abilities matter.

I am happy that there are Steemians like you on the network. I can definitely learn a lot from you.

Pls @themarkymark i dnt knw what happened but can i talk about the bidding here

My vote is worth shit, but I resteemed this, cause crap piling up on top of crap, that ends up trending, is really one of these things that SERIOUSLY worries my about steemit... and I get that most of people here are for the money and nothing else, but somehow we need to take action as a community to cut the bastards down to size!

Those in power have great responsibility here as in old Spiderman's saying, but minnows should also stand up against abuse and do whatever they can, cause if pool becomes a cesspool we're all dipping in shit basically!

I'm learning as I go. I did see a lot of this guys posts over the last few days though. In actual fact I didn't realise there was anything wrong it.

Seeing this really makes me sad. I could write a very long comment on my thoughts about this but I will only sum it up with a sentence or two. My message to all the people on Steemit is “Stop looking at the trending posts and focus your time and voting power on the minnows that produce quality content and try to find gems among them. For it is this people that can make Steemit great and worthy of visiting by newcomers and general public.“ @themarkymark keep up the good work, I voted you for a witness and I hope you continue with such deeds for without such actions Steemit will loose its respect when many people especially minnows with quality content will see that this is happening and that this is the reason they are not getting any upvotes. Enjoy friends...

whatever happened with the guy who was going to spam everyone to retaliate?

Fizzled when I made the post before he started.

darn, I was hoping to get a spite upvote.

There are only so many hours in the day and with hundreds of thousands of posts you are more than doing your part. You can only do so much! People will try to game the system every time. Being new here I am starting to worry about a larger amount of these kinds of posts if steemit grows exponentially. Thats not going to stop me from spreading the word about Steemit as much as I can though. I am sure people like you and others will do their best to fight plagiarizers and spammers as much as you can.
