Any banding together to increase rewards benefits the few at the expense of everybody else.
When whales vote, everybody else's vote is worth less.
Ok, if you are a whale, or a sycophant, but not so much otherwise.

This includes the really popular get togethers that put out the numbers of what good they are doing.
They only do that good for folks that play along.
Dissent is not being rewarded, largely.
For most of the first year it was actively suppressed.
Still is, for those authors that are still here, imo.
