Drum & Bass style "reese" bass using Ableton's Operator and Sampler

in #ableton7 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone!

My name is Kozmo

I have been producing electronic music for about 8 years now and have always enjoyed sharing what I have learned with other people. This is my first post on the Steem platform and I hope to bring you many more interesting and insightful tutorials.

Today's lesson will be a short video on how to achieve a "reese" style bassline like you hear in many drum & bass (and most recently a lot of Wave) style songs. Here are a couple examples of the sound we will be going after today:

One of my favorite tunes, "Village Folk" by Amit:

Or another dancefloor killa', "2097" by Dom & Roland:

And finally a Wave example, "Solis" by Five Suns:

Since these classic tunes have come out, the "Neuro" sound has evolved quite a bit as any style that has been developed for over 20+ years should. Today, however, we will be learning the "Neuro" style bass in its most basic form: Two - Three oscillators going in and out of phase with each other creating "beating" or "wobble" like movement.

Without further ado here is the tutorial:

From this point in the video the possibilities are endless as we begin to process our sound with distortion, compression, spacial effects such as chorus, phaser or flanger and modulating EQ filters! Stay tuned for the next tutorial where I will go more in depth into how we can process this "reese" bass and make it even more interesting and massive!

Until next time!
