One of my friends, 28-year-old, a programmer, he just quit his job a few days ago, now busy interviewing for a job.
One night, he asked me: "Hey, whenever I went to the interview, the HR manager asked me if I have a girlfriend."
I stared at him for 3 seconds, he looks quite ok, currently jobless, body figure not bad, with doubt: "Does the HR manager like you?"
He then feels excited and continued: "The first interview, I also think that way, but after a few companies, almost every interview asks this question. Why when interview, HR love to ask if I have a girlfriend? Does having a girlfriend will affect the interview results?”
I looked at him, his eyes gradually distracted and lost in thought. What does it mean for a 28-year-old programmer without a girlfriend?
After a long thought, what I think why HR is concerned about this issue, of course, is not really concerned about you have no girlfriend, or interested in you. Considering all kinds of factors, I think there are about four reasons for this question.
First, the company wants to know if you can work overtime and business trip
From the scope of work and work intensity assessment, overtime in the IT industry is the necessary skills, if on the project, a month of a business trip is often.
Have a girlfriend, from the point of view of humanistic care, long-term arrangements for travel, consider the feelings of family members, after all, the family harmony is to improve the enthusiasm of the work of the auxiliary conditions. And as a single, overtime, business trips, socializing with customers, have a better time distribution.
Second, considering the stability of life and work
HR make a comprehensive assessment of candidates in the company's perspective, so of course not only from the perspective of the ego to measure whether you are in line with your own aesthetic standards but in the long-term perspective, are you suitable to stay in the company.
If you have a girlfriend, and your girlfriend is in the same city, the probability of living in the city increases; If your girlfriend is a public servant, then it's more stable.
If your girlfriend is in a different place, then you become a time bomb. It is quite common for an employee to quit the job for love. Then there are the instability factors that leave at any time and move to another city.
If you are single, you need to synthesize your previous work experience to consider your personal stability. After all, it is not easy for a company to find a suitable talent, which is one of the company's costs.
Third, reflects your social skills.
This, I talked to my several HR friends before, they agreed that: a 28 years old male without a girlfriend, maybe because he has certain social obstacles, perhaps limited by his character, but this is only one side, just for a reference only.
Of course, HR will also ask the female, because the fear of just getting married and having children, this is very unfavorable to the company.
From the company's perspective, 28-Year-old can manage a good love and marriage, that is, can coordinate the family and work, so the sense of responsibility will be stronger, will perform well in work. In the long run, the more likely you are to be promoted, the more your company will evaluate you and consider whether the job is right for you.
Of course, this is only one aspect of the overall HR assessment, after all, you can’t judge a person just because he/she is single, it seems too unfair. Nowadays the society is more open, many people tend to build their career first.
In general, if HR asked, they just want to understand your interpersonal communication process, how to deal with the conflict between work and life, whether have such balance ability. So, as long as you show your attitude towards the job, this problem will not pose a threat to your interview.
Assess your expectations for the salary terms.
Salary is also one of the important factors in your choice of company, a male who has a girlfriend or entering the marriage stage, they have more burden in life, the salary requirements will naturally higher, and pay more attention to social security, Provident Fund, and other pay ratios. And these factors, is the company cost expenditure category, the HR must carry on the appraisal.
Interviews are two-way, HR has better understand the company system, of course, ultimately they will decide from the individual ability to position salary levels. Each post for the company is a cost of the budget, whether from the company's point of view and job seekers from the point of view, pay is two-way attention.
