My mountain hikes no. 9 – Trzy Korony

There are quite a lot of mountains and many beautiful peaks in Poland, but undoubtedly the peak with the most recognizable silhouette is Trzy Korony located in the Pieniny Mountains. In my youth, I had the impression that a school trip during which I took part in a rafting trip on the Dunajec River and a trip to Trzy Korony Mountain was a must-have in the education of every child from southern Poland. I returned to this region of the Polish mountains only after many years. Yes, I had already been to Wysoka Mountain in the eastern part of the Pieniny Mountains a few years earlier and it happened while conquering the Crown of the Polish Mountains, but I returned to the heart of the Pieniny Mountains, to Trzy Korony, only after about 20 years.
We arrived in the Pieniny Mountains, or more precisely in Sromowce Niżne, late at night, because, wanting to save a day of vacation, we decided to leave Krakow only late in the afternoon after work. After reaching the place, we looked for a quiet place where we could park the car and spend the night in a tent. Everything went according to plan until the morning when we woke up and found that we had pitched our tent right next to the horse run. There was nothing left for us to do but take out our camera and take a series of photos of horses with the Three Crowns peak in the background. Beautiful weather, well-groomed horses and a picturesque peak, what more could you want.
After the session, it was time to go to the mountains. We followed the yellow trail up and before we left Sromowce Niżne for good, we passed the PTTK Trzy Korony Shelter. A very nice building, but since we were there right after breakfast, we didn't stop there for a moment. I only entered the vestibule to put a stamp on my mountain books. We left the yellow trail only at the Szopka pass, which is 780 meters above sea level. From the pass to the summit there was only one kilometer of road and a little over 200 meters of elevation gain. Finally, we reached Okrąglica, 982 m above sea level, the highest peak in the Three Crowns group. On Okrąglica there is a viewing platform from which there is a beautiful view of the Dunajec Valley. In the background, almost at your fingertips, you can clearly admire the panorama of the eastern part of the Tatra Mountains with the High Tatras and the Belianske Tatras in the foreground.
We descended from the peak along the green trail. The entire route took us 3 hours, during which we covered 8.5 kilometers and overcame an elevation of over 600 meters.

W Polsce jest całkiem dużo gór i wiele pięknych szczytów, ale bez wątpienia szczytem o najbardziej rozpoznawalnej sylwetce są położone w Pieninach Trzy Korony. W młodości miałem wrażenie, że wycieczka szkolna w trakcie której brało się udział w spływie Dunajcem oraz wyjście na Trzy Korony była punktem obowiązkowym w edukacji dla każdego dziecka z południowej polski. Ja w ten rejon Polskich gór wróciłem dopiero po wielu latach. Owszem we wschodniej części Pienin byłem już kilka lat wcześniej na górze Wysoka i miało to miejsce przy okazji zdobywania Korony Gór Polskich, jednak w serce Pienin, na Trzy Korony wróciłem dopiero po około 20 latach.
W Pieniny, a dokładniej do Sromowców Niżnych przyjechaliśmy późną nocą, ponieważ chcąc zaoszczędzić dzień urlopu zdecydowaliśmy się ruszyć z Krakowa dopiero późnym popołudniem po pracy. Po dotarciu na miejsce poszukaliśmy jakiegoś spokojnego miejsca gdzie mogliśmy zaparkować samochód i przenocować się w namiocie. Wszystko przebiegało zgodnie z planem, aż do poranka kiedy to po obudzeniu się okazało się, że rozbiliśmy namiot tuż przy wybiegu dla koni. Nie pozostawało nam nic innego jak tylko wyjąc aparat fotograficzny i zrobić serie zdjęć koni z szczytem Trzech Koron na tle. Piękna pogoda, zadbane konie i malowniczy szczyt, czego chcieć więcej.
Po sesji przyszła pora aby iść w góry. Ruszyliśmy żółtym szlakiem w górę i nim na dobre opuściliśmy Sromowce Niżne na naszej drodze minęliśmy Schronisko PTTK Trzy Korony. Bardzo ładna budowla, ale że byliśmy bezpośrednio po śniadaniu nie zatrzymaliśmy się tam ani na chwilę. Wszedłem tylko do przedsionka aby do swoich górskich książeczek przybić pieczątkę. Z żółtego szlaku zeszliśmy dopiero na przełęczy Szopka, która ma wysokość 780 metrów nad poziomem morza. Z przełęczy na szczyt pozostał wyłącznie jeden kilometr drogi i trochę ponad 200 metrów przewyższenia. Wreszcie zdobyliśmy Okrąglicę liczącą 982 m nad poziomem morza czyli najwyższy szczyt wchodzący w skład grupy Trzech Koron. Na Okrąglicy znajduje się platforma widokowa, z której rozpościera się przepiękny widok na dolinę Dunajca. W tle bardzo wyraźnie niemal na wyciągnięcie ręki można podziwiać panoramę wschodniej części tatr z Tatrami Wysokimi i Tatrami Bielskimi na pierwszym planie.
Ze szczytu zeszliśmy po zielonym szlaku. Cała trasa trwała nam 3 godziny w trakcie których przeszliśmy 8 i pół kilometra i pokonaliśmy przewyższenie wynoszące ponad 600 metrów.
