Eilat Desert Mountain Trail

You must make an escape to the Eilat Desert that is very near the Eilat town. There are lots of hiking trails through the vast desert.

Look at the sand in the desert mountain.

This doesn't even look like a photograph.

It looks like a painting.

But they are photographs I took of the desert when I went hiking here for the day.

You can see some red sand on the top.

Some green sand on the rolling hills.

And brown sand most of the hills.

The scenery is stunning.

The place is quite safe.

Trail marks

There is a sign at the entrance.

The Israel Trail is marked with colors.

You see: white, blue and orange, to show you all the connecting points as you choose your routes.

Once you start on a color, you just follow all the way through or else you get lost.

You can follow the directions given here easily and start your trail walking.

Remember this is desert trail, so make sure you bring enough water to last for the day. One day requires 5 litres of water.

Along the hike, you catch some dead trees around as there is not much water here from the ground.

I like this quiet place.

And you will too.

This is really a very unique desert hiking trail for hikers.

It is not yet to Timna but at the Gulf of Eilat.

I see some hikers spending a week here because they just absolutely love this place. It takes actually about 6 days to walk through the entire desert hiking.

So in that sense, if you want to spend the entire week here, this is really more for experienced hikers who can go for long stretches of strenenous walking.

The distances covered can be quite long sometimes.

I've talked with some hikers here and some trails take them 20 kilometers to finish.

This means that you must carry enough water and food for your hikes.

You will see that there are water fountains around.

They are available at the starting points except for in Be'er Malchan, Shechoret and Mount Yehoram parks.

They have overnight camping sites for you to book but it is still best that you bring some of your favorite food to eat at night to enjoy the desert life because there is not a lot of luxurious restaurants or coffee places that you are used to having.

You can actually book on the site which I almost did. It would be good to bring your sleeping bag to sleep in although it is not necessary but good to have if you decide to stay overnight.

I didn't stay overnight because I didn't have good hiking boots and just plain old walking shoes so I didn't want to take any risk.

Bring a hat and also sunscreen.

Yes, bring a walking stick too if you go for a week.

Although you may look at my photographs and you see that there is nothing to see.

All you see is desert.

I feel very much connected to nature.

You get to view all the different formations of the mountains and the diversity of colors in the rocks.

Hint

If you walk the Eilat Desert Trail, be sure to walk from north to south.

When you get down to south, then you head to the water like I do and go for your swim.
