Before going to the Loy Krathong festival in Karon Beach last Friday, we made a long stop in Patong Beach to see how the situation was evolving.
The Covid having destroyed the whole tourism industry of the island (hotels, restaurants, bars, tours, massages....) I was curious to know if the Phuket Sandbox (facilitating the return of tourists to the island to enjoy a well deserved vacation after its 2 years of constraints) was finally starting to have positive impacts.
Avant de nous rendre au festival de Loy Krathong à Karon Beach, vendredi dernier, nous avons fait une longue halte à Patong Beach pour voir comment évoluait la situation.
Le Covid ayant anihilé toute l'industrie du tourisme de l'ile (hotels, restaurants, bars, tours, massages....) j'étais curieux de savoir si le Phuket Sandbox (facilitation pour les touristes de venir sur l'ile pour profiter de vacances bien mérités après ses 2 ans de contraintes) commençait enfin à avoir des répercursions positives.
We parked the car at the end of the beach (when you take the direction of Karon Beach) and which is a rather nice place of the beach. This is where a mini beach market is held periodically (mainly on weekend), but also where jet ski and parasailing departures take place.
My wife started to take pictures of our youngest son (still wearing his school uniform since we didn't go back home after picking him up from school) while I went to explore a bit more on the sand of this beach which has finally regained its splendor with a beautiful sea and sand.
Nous nous sommes garé en bout de plage (lorsque l'on prends la direction de Karon Beach) et qui est un coin de la plage assez sympa. C'est en général ici que ce tiens un petit marché de plage le weekend, les départs en jet ski et parachute ascensionnel.
Ma femme à commencer à prendre notre cadet en photo (toujours habillé de son uniforme scolaire n'étant pas repassé à la maison après l'avoir récupéré à l'école) pendant que moi j'allais m'aventurer un peu plus sur le sable de cette plage qui a enfin retrouvé de sa splendeur avec une mer et un sable magnifique.
And there, surprise, the reduced measures of Phuket Sandbox (info here) seem to have finally a positive impact on the frequentation. Until a few weeks ago the beach was totally abandoned, but now many tourists are here and beach activities are starting again.
It's a great morale booster when you know how many people lost their jobs and lives were ruined during those 2 years.
Et là, surprise, les mesures allègées de Phuket Sandbox (infos ici) semblent enfin porter leur fruits. Il y a encore quelques semaines la plage était totalement déserte, alors que là, de nombreux touristes y sont et que les activités de plage reprennent.
Cela remonte le moral quand on sait le nombre de personnes ayant perdu leur emplois et de vie brisé durant ses 2 ans.
My wife had a long discussion with a Thai couple who came to walk with their wonderful Siamese cat and who had invested all their money to run a hotel in Patong before Covid.
They have now lost everything, money, hotel and are without work. With the reopening of the bars they are now considering going to work there as waiter/waitress.
D'ailleurs ma femme a longuement discuté avec un couple Thaï venu se promener avec leur magnifique chat siamois et qui ont investis tout leur argent dans l'exploitation d'un hotel sur Patong.
Résultat, ils ont tout perdu, argent, hotel et se retrouve sans travail. Avec la réouverture des bars ils commencent à postuler pour un emploi de serveur/serveuse.
The fishermen are also present and will finally be able to sell again the result of their fishing to different restaurants.
Because a must in Phuket is to eat all kinds of succulent fish and seafood!
Les pêcheurs eux aussi sont là et vont enfin pouvoir revendre le fruit de leur pêche aux différents restaurants.
Car une chose incontournable à Phuket, c'est de manger toutes sortes de succulents poissons et fruit de mer!
Beyond all the negative clichés propagated by some documentaries or programs, Patong remains a place where you can make very interesting human encounters.
Aren't your best vacations the ones where you immerse yourself and open yourself to the local culture, leaving behind preconceived ideas, simply living in the moment without knowing where it will lead you?
Au delà de tous les clichés négatifs propagées par certains documentaires ou emissions Patong reste un endroit où vous pouvez faire de très belles rencontres humaines.
Vos plus belles vacances ne sont elles pas celles où vous vous êtes imprégné et ouvert à la culture locale laissant chez vous préjugés et idées préconçues, vous laissant simplement vivre l'instant présent à sa juste valeur ?
And what about the delight of being able to enjoy after a good day a golden hour and a wonderful sunset on the Andaman Sea.
A show that I would have a hard time getting tired of, because it's so amazing.
Moreover this evening, thanks to the clouds we could enjoy a whole range of colors more lovely the ones than the others.
Et que dire de la joie de pouvoir profiter après une bonne journée d'une golden hour et d'un couché de soleil magnifique sur la mer Andaman.
Un spectable dont j'aurais bien du mal à me lasser tellement il est fantastique.
En plus ce soir là, grâce aux nuages nous avons pu profiter de tout un éventail de couleur plus belle les unes que les autres.
We are on the end of the rainy season and therefore we enter the best period to come to relax on Phuket and the surrounding islands. I say that I say nothing Hahaha!
Nous sommes sur la fin de la saison des pluies et donc nous rentrons dans la meilleure période pour venir se détendre sur Phuket et les iles alentours. Je dis ça je dis rien Hahaha!

Oh super belles tes photos! Merci d'avoir partagé ce moment, je suis d'accord avec la "Golden Hour", c'est quand je prefere filmer, surtout le matin pour ma musique quand il y a très peu de pollution. A plus!
Merci! Oui c'est vrai que le matin j'aime bien aussi, plus frais, plus calme. J'ai commencé à écouter un peu tes musiques, franchement bien et sacré voix! Bravo aussi pour la config car en extérieur cela ne doit pas être évident.
