Biblioteca del Pioppo Pio (HiveBR Photo Contest)

in HiveBR3 days ago

I really like reading. I read both fiction and non-fiction.
During my holidays I was always able to find my rest and time to sit an read some books. Just recently I have convinced myself that I also can read books at home and that I just have to make time for it.

Physical vs Digital

Despite the fact that I read a lot of books, I don't have a book case, or even a book shelf. I read my books from an e-reader. There are two different camps among book readers: those who read on paper and those who read digitally.
And there is an emerging third group: those who don’t read books but listen to them.

But, I don't have hardly books to photograph in my house, so I had to dig into my photo archive for a photo to join. And that is when I found this Biblioteca del Pioppo Pio.

Tiny Free Libraries

I don't know of this fenomenon of tiny free libraries can be found all over the world, but here in The Netherlands we have quite a lot of them. These libraries are often placed in public places. The 'rules' of these libraries can be different. In some you have to trade one book for another where others allow you to take a book for free.
Although I don't read paper books, I do like the idea of sharing. I've seen a lot of these tiny libraries in peoples front yards.

And you also see them a lot on campsites. Since people can't always bring a lot of books in their travel luggage they can make use of these libraries to exchange the books they have finished for another one.

This Biblioteca del Pioppo Pio (Library of the Pious Poplar) is by far the most creative one I have ever seen. It was placed on one of the beaches of the Garda lake in Italy.
I really had to take a picture of it. And now I can share it with you!

Love that book case in the tree, I have myself seen quite a few in Nl and other countries. I think it is a great idea, it is also handy for the spies to pass on secret messages.

I went through a phase of using a kindle, downloading books from the piratebay saved me a fortune, But it lost its appeal and I returned to paper. There is something ,agical about opening a new book and sticking ya nose in and inhaling. Then page turning is a better experience than finger flicking IMHO.

Sadly the high streets do not have many independent sellers these days and I have to rely on the corporate waterstones or the supermarkets for my stuff. Oh! and I have a book case, I tend to only keep non fiction books there. The fiction usually goes to charity shops

Then page turning is a better experience than finger flicking IMHO.

We don't agree on this point 😀
Yes, from a nostalgic point of view a book is nice. You actually have something in your hands which is crafted and yours. You can view, touch, smell the book instead of a couple of just having a couple of bits and bytes.

But I like the ease of my Kobo. I can read everywhere. I can fit hundreds of books in my pocket which is very useful when you want to take a couple of books with you on holiday. I can read without glasses (👴), in low and bright light conditions because of the screen that can be lit or dimmed.

But again, I totally understand why people love to have a real book.
The same goes for physical (Christmas) cards when you compare them with a digital message.

I never send xmas cards LOL
Each to their own I guess, I understand the holiday thing, but I can get away with one stuffed in my rucksack to keep me going, guess the Kobo is a winner in low light...got me there 😂

this sort of "common library" is really nice, you can share the books you already read.

I've seen the option to listen to posts, but I've never tried it.

it sometimes has a weird rhythm to it, specially around commas.

I really fell hard with the tiny library, it's so cute and amazing, 💖💕 in Bs. As. we have them in the bus stops, my brothers often give some books there

I haven't seen them in bus stops here yet, but that it an excellent place for one indeed!

It is great that you get a chance to read - online or not - you are reading and that is great. I do see these little libraries all over - I loe the concept.

I love that little library - so creative indeed.

I take the chance to read, which I never did outside my holidays.
Long time no see on the chain.
Thanks for visiting my blog.

I love the concept of little free libraries! I have left and taken books, but these days I'm doing many more audible books.

Me too. I hope others than us keep reading paper books so these lovely libraries will stay.
