This year we are blessed with a great summer in Switzerland! Usually August tends to be colder and rainy but this year it's sunny and still very warm, so we try to go to nature as much as we can.
Yesterday we went to Flumserberg and I would love to show you around. I am sure you will like it!
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/10 18 mm
Flumserberg is a resort area in the Swiss Alps and it is located in the canton of St. Gallen. There are plenty of hiking trails in summer and it is the biggest winter sports’ region in eastern Switzerland.
We know the area already as we've been here several times during the last couple of years. We decided to go to Maschgenkamm (2020 m) because it offers the most beautiful views. Last year we hiked up the mountain and could still feel the pain one week after so this year we opted for the cable car! 😊
It takes only 20 minutes and no effort to get to the top of mountain! Ideal!
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/10 18 mm
Even though the windows of the cable car are scratched you can still enjoy the views. Our station is behind this mountain.
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/8 18 mm
When we went a little higher we got to see the Walensee behind us. This photo is clear as there was a small open window in the cable car.
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/8 18 mm
We are slowly reaching the top!
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/8 18 mm
It was windy, and our cabin was moving wildly from one side to another so were very happy to reach the station. The views are so rewarding!
Flumserberg is facing the fascinating Churfirsten chain which consists of 7 mountains. All of them are higher than 2000 m. Here you can see all of them (from the right) - Selun, Frümsel, Brisi, Zuestoll, Schilbenstoll, Hinterrug and Chässerrug.
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/10 18 mm
When you turn left you will see the mountain Sächsmoor (2196 m). This is the path that we will take later but first we will walk a little bit down the hill to see some cows and horses.
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/10 18 mm
So beautiful! And there were so many of them!
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/13 20 mm
The one on the left was giving me a strange look and I didn't dare to come closer 😊
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/13 18 mm
It is very common in Switzerland that there are some bulls between cows as well. I can't recognize them as all cows have horns too so I rather keep the distance! Have you ever seen a cow running? They are so fast!
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/13 18 mm
They slowly started to move in my direction.. I chickened out and ran away! I know they are peaceful animals but they are so strong as well!
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/13 18 mm
We walked up the hill to get to the station again. As you can see there are plenty of hiking trails.
All mountain lovers will find a trail that they will enjoy. We went for beautiful views and an easy hike today.
There are so many trash bins everywhere and we could still see many plastic wraps, pieces of paper or even some pieces of fabric on the ground. We collected what we could and placed it in the trash bin. But it is frustrating that we can't do more.
Many people go to the mountains and they don't realize that there is no cleaning service or a magical elf walking behind them and collecting their trash. We should be grateful for nature that we have around us and take a good care of it so that the next generations can enjoy it too!
It's not that bad in Switzerland though but we could still do it better.
Let's go and enjoy the beauty! Now it's time to walk towards Sächsmoor.
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/9 18 mm
It's not that far away, isn't it?
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/11 18 mm
Well, it actually is! 😊 But lucky us, we will soon take a left turn instead of going there.
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/10 18 mm
Now we get to see the Churfirsten chain in its full glory together with 5 lakes. Well, 3 of them are lakes. I'm not sure about the other small ones. The one in the back isWalensee. Then we see two lakes in front of it. The bigger one is called Grosssee and the smaller one is called Heusee.
There were a few clouds and the light was changing constantly. So pretty!
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/9 18 mm
Turn your head to the left now and pay some attention to the rock formation that is over 200 million year old. It makes you feel so young! 😊
ISO 100 1/250 sec. f/7.1 18 mm
After that corner we will take the left turn.
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/9 18 mm
Here we are! But before we continue let's sit down, have a snack and read a few pages of your favorite book.
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/9 18 mm
Yes, I'm this kind of weirdo bringing books to the mountains 😊
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/11 18 mm
After a short break we can enter the UNESCO World Heritage Site called Tectonic Arena Sardona.
The area displays an exceptional example of mountain building through continental collision and features. Along the line, which can be seen from far away, 250 million year old rocks moved over a distance of around 40 km on top of much younger, 50 million year old rocks.
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/9 18 mm
The mountain on the right is called Magerrain (2524 m) and that spiky one on the left is called Spitzmeilen (2501 m)
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/9 18 mm
Another stunning view in direction of Gamsberg (if I'm not mistaken 😊)
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/9 18 mm
Here are a few more breathtaking views.. I let the photos speak for themselves.
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/9 18 mm

ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/10 20 mm
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/10 18 mm
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/11 18 mm
Let's go back to the cable cart now. It is hidden behind this mountain.
ISO 100 1/200 sec. f/9 18 mm
ISO 100 1/250 sec. f/8 18 mm
This trail on the way back is called 'Alpenfloraweg'
From the beginning of July you can marvel at the variety of different flowers that must withstand extreme weather conditions. There are also very useful info signs which you can read to learn more about each of them.
We've seen so many beautiful flowers and plants that normally are not in season anymore. But as it's much colder here they still keep blooming.
For family with kids there is also the Geo Gallery where your kids can explore particular fossils species, rocks and minerals and also learn more about them. There are some games on the way too!
This trail is easily accessible by cable car and the path is very safe so it's not an exception to come across parents with prams. It's also popular among older tourists as it's a very easy hike.
One last view to remember before we get to the station...
ISO 100 1/400 sec. f/10 18 mm
And the view from the cable car on the way back to the car.
ISO 100 1/320 sec. f/9 18 mm
We walked a lot and were quite tired by the time we got home but we both agreed that it was an amazing day and already started to make a plan for the next weekend 😊

Wow, definitely on the bucket list. (with half the rest of the world too) Those are some great shots, I love mountains, I guess that's my I live where I do. I would say my favorite is the lakes with the long rock spine of a mountain behind them.
Great post though, I like the walk through approach.
Thank you for stopping by! :) There are so many places on my bucket list too :D
I love mountains too and I'm lucky to live here and be able to go there almost every weekend.
It's nice to know which one is your favorite :)
I live in a beautiful place, but I want to see so many more beautiful places
here's a shot of the valley I grew up in.
Here's a shot from my backyard...
Wow! You live in an amazing place! :) If I would have such a view from my backyard I would spend there all my free time :)
Yes, it can be distracting. I work from home and my desk is right in front of a window with a beautiful view, and usually lots of animals to distract me.
Have a great evening.
I was working with an amazing view of Rhine river and I struggle to work in summer as I was distracted by tourists and all dogs running around :D I understand what you mean :)
Thank you and have a lovely evening too!
The magnificent and awesome photos reminds of movies and tv shows that I love :D Such an amazing view nature gives. It would have been something else a million years ago. Perfect place to read a book. There's something lacking about those photos though - me! Lol!
Improper garbage disposal is a problem everywhere. Sigh.
I have not seen cows run, at least not towards me. I bet they run faster when they run towards you :D
Are you allowed to swim in the lakes?
Such a wonderful trip that is.
Hahaha, pack your backpack and come over! 🤣
They are SO fast! I've seen it recently for the first time when I was on vacation in Slovakia and it scared me so much. My mom was laughing that I turned into a city girl. Well, maybe.. but I didn't see a running cow even when I was a child!
There are places where you can swim. But I wouldn't do it as it's too deep for me. I like shallow waters 😊
Thank you for stopping by my dear friend! ❤
There's magic in these photos. Whenever I see a picture of an open field, it brings me to those places stored in my imagination. It's like a fantasy journey but real. I recall doing make believe while hiking in such terrain. These are the places I want to walk on in the future. These are the places I need to experience to make me say it's great to be alive.
You did an amazing job sharing your adventure. If I ever want to take a good breather or reflect, these kind of places would be perfect. And I'd definitely bring a damn good book while enjoying the mountain breeze. Thank you for this post :D
Thank you for stopping by! I hope you'll be able to make your dreams come true and visit such beautiful places :)
I'm glad I'm not the only one bringing my book :) It's so relaxing to read outside with amazing views :)
My pleasure my dear :)
What an outstanding day, I cannot believe the colour of blue the water is...it is surreal!
I feel so much calm and peace after witnessing your journey in the mountains. Thank you for sharing this @delishtreats.
When I saw it for the first time I couldn't believe it either :D
Thank you for stopping by Lyndsay! :) I'm glad that you liked it! :)
Wow @delishtreats this is such an incredible feast for the eyes, I can’t thank you enough. When I look at your photos I can literally feel the fresh breeze on my cheeks and smell the amazing air quality of the mountains.Hiking in these places looks like absolute heaven on earth. Mountainous places like this really give you the feeling of being lifted up above normal life. Rather like being in the Himalayas or even another planet. It’s an absolute joy to take this journey with you - apart from the cable car swinging in the wind but I suppose that is something you get used to if you use them regularly. I was one in one a few times whilst exploring Austria many years ago, the views they give are worth those high heart beating moments though.
It’s been an absolute pleasure to view these fabulous photos of this extraordinary and beautiful land, almost fairytale like and thanks to my favourite fairy with the camera for taking this hike on our behalf. I am delighted this post got the attention it deserved too as my vote is worth very little be my personal appreciation knows no bounds! 💜🌈🦋🌴👏💛
Being in such environment makes you forget all your problems and just enjoy the moment. I'm happy that you feel like you were there with me :)
Well, usually I prefer not to go by cable car but my doctor just realized I have very 'special' hips and advised me to take it slow. I'm now waiting for an appointment with the specialist and hope that he will tell me not to limit myself like this. I love hiking! Would be so bad if I wouldn't be able to do it anymore.
Thank you so much for your kind words my dear! I'm sooo excited about this curie vote :) It made my day :) And it's not all about the votes! If you write such comment it does make me smile and this is more important to me! :)
Fantastic photos of a magical location ! 👍
I just need a few minutes to watch nearly all of them. So I could imagine how much time and effort you spend into this great post 😀!
You really deserves the up from curie. And I drop also a little by :-)
Thank you for your nice words! I'm very pleased that you like them! Oh yes, it took me half a day to be honest :D
An upvote from Curie is always such a nice surprise and a great motivation to keep posting :)
@delishtreats Martina, these are such beautiful photographs of your travel series. I think I would have stayed clear of that cow as well! It was also very nice of you to pick up after others litter and put it in the trash bin. Not many people would be considerate enough to do that!
It looks like you had a wonderful time! I'm so envious of this scenery!
Thank you for stopping by! Yes, these cows.. they seem to be cute but I wouldn't go closer :D
I love mountains and this is the least I can do :)
We had the best time! I will be bringing more posts from Switzerland and I hope you will like them too! :)
@delishtreats I can't wait to see them! I love looking at photos from all over the world. It gives you a sense of travel without having to leave home when you don't have the time or money to get away!
Breathtaking views. I have to ask, did you enhance the color of these pictures? The vibrant blue skies are just gorgeous. Hey, and congratulations on all the attention this post is getting. You deserve it! Thank you for putting out great content!
Thank you so much!! This attention is amazing but also a little bit overwhelming :) In the best way possible though :)
I usually adjust a little bit of light as I prefer to take darker photos and then adjust it as I'm not such a fan of very bright ones. I've tried to send you the original photo so that you can see the difference but for some reason the upload keeps failing.. I'll try later :)
Whatever you’re doing keep it up because we all love it! I’m sure it can be overwhelming at but like I tell my husband, just continue to put our content that you’re satisfied with and the right people will see it. Congratulations again.
Thank you so much for your support. Reading such nice comments is very motivating!
The pleasure is all mine.
Hello your photos are stunnings!!it looks like you had a beautiful weather there!!!i really like the photo of the montains with the tinny little house:)
Thank you for stopping by! That one is my favorite too! :)
Hehehe:) my pleasure
Thank you for sharing all the beautiful pictures! I love reading travel posts and seeing all the beautiful nature and blue skies! Another place to add to my bucket list for travel! It is so wonderful that you got to go and experience it all!
Thank you for stopping by! I'm so blessed to be able to live in Switzerland and to travel as much as I can. There is nothing better than getting to know new places.
I'm glad that you like my photos and I hope you'll be able to come here one day! 😊
Loving it! Reminds me so much of Austria. Swiss is like a big bro of Austria and they share a very similar landscape. Your photographs make me want to go back to Austria sooo badly! Also, maybe visiting Swiss next year for the fondue :X
This place is not that far away from Austria! Which place in Austria did you visit? I'm planning to go to Salzburg soon as a friend of mine lives there.
I hope you'll make it soon again! 😉
I went to Tyrol, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Mittenwald. Will be back there soon, I used to live in Munich :D
WOW, WOW, WOW what a beautiful place! Thank you for taking us to the Swiss alps. I love that you read up in the mountains!!
Thank you dear Sara! I'll be posting more of them to convince you to come over for a few weeks :D
It's soooo relaxing to read in the mountains! I love it!
Martina, oh I am convinced. I need to save up the time and money now!
Will be waiting for you! 😉
I think Switzerland mountains are the most beautiful mountains in the world. Or at least some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. I hope you enjoyed. Thank you for sharing. :)
Thank you so much for stopping by! You are so right! We are very lucky to live just a bit more than an hour away 😊
Good Post. Liked it
Thank you for stopping by!
It looks absolutely amazing
Thank you! It is such a lovely place. We have so many of them in Switzerland and it's such a pity that we don't have so much time to explore them all :)

wow... those mountains are amazing! Great job again Martina!
Thank you Dave! It was a great day and it is so easy to photograph such beautiful surroundings :)
@delishtreats yes I agree they are beautiful, but you do a really good job... You have a nice eye or you just take thousands of pics... not sure which one yet though :P
hahaha, I have a small sdhc card. It only fits up to 297 (RAW) photos. Usually I take between 150-200 photos, depending on where I go. I could also share more but then the post would be too long. So I like to believe it is a good eye :D
what a beautiful place to take photographs
Has Switzerland never know war? It is like the neutral territory.
Beautiful country. :)
Actually, the region where I live (Schaffhausen) has been bombed by Allies during the World war. The whole city was completely destroyed as it is very close to Germany.
It was an accident (they say issue with their radars). They wanted to bomb Germany but missed. A very sad story. They got the compensation to restore the city so they did. Now it looks exactly like it did before.
Thank you for stopping by :)
thanks for updating me. :)
A really comprehensive and well put together photographic day trip journal. I love how vibrant the photography is! Thanks for your sharing your journey.
Thank you for stopping by! :) It was a great day and the light was just amazing :)

Thank you so much @curie!!❤ Your support is so important for my account!
Almost heaven! Wow! And I am so glad that I am not the only one who takes a book with me everywhere I go! Your photos are wonderful!
Thank you for stopping by! :) I take a book with me everywhere :D
Me, too, and Kindle makes it so easy to carry stacks of books with me! What are you reading?
I still prefer normal books but Kindle is much easier :) I enjoy the feeling of paper on my fingertips :)
Right now I'm reading 'The women in his life' from Barbara Taylor Bradford. It is a novel about a billionaire who was born in a rich Jewish family right before the World War. It is a sad but beautiful and strong story about life during and after the war in Europe. I can't tell you more as I would not be able to finish before telling you the whole story :D
I haven't read anything by Bradford in far too long. I have problems with my left hand which makes holding a book while turning the page difficult. My Kindle saves me from always losing my place when I drop the book. Plus it helps me read longer when I can make the font bigger!
It sounds like a perfect helper for you :)
I haven't heard about Bradford before. I want to get another book from this author once I finish this one. I enjoy the writing style a lot.
Such spectacular mountains! I would love to hike there.
Thank you for stopping by! I hope you'll make it here one day :)
Hiya, just swinging by to let you know that this post made the Honorable Mentions list in our daily Travel Digest. Please drop by to check out all the rest of today's great posts and consider upvoting the Travel Digest if you like what we're doing.
Thank you so much! As always I will check all of them out! You help me to find and support many amazing accounts!
Amazing, wonderful and extraordinary view to see! I love how you took picture of the road and what beneath.
Thank you so much! I like this one too! :)
Such incredibly beautiful mountains. Especially love the photo with the water. The water and the beautiful sky and of course the green really frames that formation nicely. The small shack on the trail is also a classic.
Thank you for stopping by! Switzerland is one of the most beautiful countries in my opinion. There are too many amazing spots here! We've been living here for more than 7 years but I think we haven't managed to see even 10% of what is available here :)
Oh and the water here has the most beautiful color. Walensee is sooo blue!
