FJ 2023#292 - NOV 5 - Wiedeń (Dzień trzeci) - Rathausplatz, Votivkirche, Schloss Schönbrunn

Pogoda spłatała nam dziś figla, według wcześniejszych prognoz miało dziś cały dzień być pochmurno i padać. Rano rzeczywiście tak było, ale około 10 kiedy wychodziliśmy z hotelu przestało padać i wyszło słońce. Co więcej tak było przez cały dzień.

Na początek pojechaliśmy tramwajem w stronę Rathausplatz, ale po drodze wysiedliśmy dwa przystanki wcześniej, żeby poszukać czynnej apteki. Po kilku próbach okazało się, że dyżurna apteka jest w pobliżu ratusza, ale skąd mieliśmy to wiedzieć. Na placu przed ratuszem trwają już zaawansowane prace budowlane świątecznego jarmarku. To nie jedyne miejsce w Wiedniu, gdzie stawiane są jarmarczne budy, wszystko musi być gotowe na 24 listopada, kiedy to oficjalne zaczną się świąteczne jarmarki.

Kilka kroków od ratusza jest Votivkirche (Kościół Wotywny), uznawany jest za jedną z najważniejszych neogotyckich budowli sakralnych na świecie. Budowa tego kościoła jest związana z zamachem na młodego cesarza Franciszka Józefa I dokonanym 18 lutego 1853 roku przez czeladnika krawca Janosa Libenyi. Po zamachu brat cesarza, arcyksiążę Ferdynand Maksymilian, późniejszy cesarz Meksyku, wezwał do przekazywania datków na budowę nowego kościoła w Wiedniu „w podziękowaniu za zbawienie Jego Królewskiej Mości”. Kościół miał być wybudowany jako „dar wdzięczności” (wotum, stąd nazwa) od ludów monarchii za zbawienie Franciszka Józefa. Ciekawe wnętrze i witraże.

Później znaleźliśmy miejsce gdzie mogliśmy zjeść wiedeńskiego sznycla, ale tylko wieprzowe były w ofercie. Chcieliśmy spróbować cielęcego, ale z braku takiego musieliśmy zadowolić się tym co było.

Ostatnie miejsce, które chcieliśmy zobaczyć w dziennej aurze był Pałac Schönbrunn, a w zasadzie jego ogrody. Zwiedzanie pałacu sobie darowaliśmy, te trzy dni były dość męczące. Ogrody są równie imponujące i warte zobaczenia.

Kiedy wróciliśmy do centrum miasta to już byl ciemno.

[ENG] The weather played a trick on us today, according to previous forecasts it was supposed to be cloudy and raining all day. This was indeed the case in the morning, but around 10 when we left the hotel, the rain stopped and the sun came out. What's more, it was like this all day long.
First, we took a tram towards Rathausplatz, but on the way we got off two stops earlier to look for an open pharmacy. After several attempts, it turned out that the pharmacy on duty was near the town hall, but how were we supposed to know that? Construction work on the Christmas fair is already well underway on the square in front of the town hall. This is not the only place in Vienna where fairground booths are erected, everything must be ready on November 24, when the Christmas markets officially begin.
A few steps from the town hall is the Votivkirche (Votive Church), considered one of the most important neo-Gothic religious buildings in the world. The construction of this church is related to the assassination of the young Emperor Franz Joseph I on February 18, 1853 by a journeyman tailor, Janos Libenyi. After the assassination, the emperor's brother, Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian, later Emperor of Mexico, called for donations to build a new church in Vienna "in gratitude for His Majesty's salvation." The church was to be built as a "gift of gratitude" (votive offering, hence the name) from the people of the monarchy for the salvation of Franz Joseph. Interesting interior and stained glass windows.
Later we found a place where we could eat Wiener schnitzel, but only pork was on offer. We wanted to try veal, but due to the lack of it, we had to settle for what was available.
The last place we wanted to see in the daylight was Schönbrunn Palace, or rather its gardens. We skipped visiting the palace as these three days were quite tiring. The gardens are equally impressive and worth seeing.
When we returned to the city center it was already dark.
